Question-Why are most if not all AP hexbolts all off?

Feb 09, 2023,03:18 AM

When I look at AP front hex bolts the middle line that bisects the head are all off and not equidistant.  Some are in the middle some are off a little and one or two are way off.  Is there a reason why AP does this?  Can they not use all the same hexbolts?

This is on pictures or actual watches using a loupe?

The fake pictures fix this but in actuality it's crystal clear

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-04:49
No loupe required. Just look at all AP watches on this forum and you can see it.

It goes in line with their reliability :-)

Or better say : lack of.....

HMMMM

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-05:52
I think this happens on even AP's most expensive watches as well

Yes, I believe MilDiver was bashing a little bit 🙂

 By: oyster case : February 9th, 2023-05:56
No , not sensitive but I appreciate your concern 🙂 Oh? You’ve rewritten your comment, it was wow… who’s bashing…just an observation…why so sensitive? Was that it?

yeah ok

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-06:02
I can't answer for Mil but I just find it interesting that every AP is off

Actually all the hex bolts are off.

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-06:12
Has nothing to do with my exacting standards. Just asking why AP does this. Can they not use the same hex bolts?

They are? We’ve gone from 2 to eight so quickly?

 By: oyster case : February 9th, 2023-06:17
You must be studying them very closely, perhaps obsessively 🤔

Actually I said the bolts are off Especially the ones at 2 and 8 o'clock not just 2

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-06:28
No not closely I just look with my eyes since it's so obvious. At that price range none should be off imho.

I think you should trace back what brought this question on…

 By: oyster case : February 9th, 2023-06:44
maybe it will lead to the answer you’re searching for 🤔 I hope you find peace with this dear sschew

I'm at peace since I don't own an AP so no worries

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-06:50
I brought this question on because I wondered why AP would do this since it seems a bit strange to me. I just find it odd putting hex bolts on a watch that are mismatched.

Actually

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-06:55
Objectively you seem to be bothered. All I did was ask a watch question on a watch forum but your posts seem a liitle passive aggressive.

Why wouldn't you be ok unless the hex misalignments truly do bother you deep down?

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-07:03
Still find it odd though that AP does this.

Camera angle, light refection and lens distortion? In person what is your experience?

 By: oyster case : February 9th, 2023-05:42
Here’s a wrist shot of my 26400, they look pretty good to me but get your ruler out if you wish 😂 ...

My friend's hexes on his diver are off too

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-05:53
Every single picture on line. Anyone who owns one can look at theirs.

No nightmares

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-06:00
I own Hublot watches so no problem.

I do

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-06:04
Thanks

Multiple hexes are off

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-05:59
No offense but you can see them in your picture espectually at 8 and 2 o'clock no ruler required

OK

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-06:09
I never asked if you were worried. I'm not obseessed I just asked a harmless question sorry if I hit a nerve.

No, no, not at all 🙂 No nerve, it’s not like I started a thread about watches I don’t own…

 By: oyster case : February 9th, 2023-06:15
only to have my premise immediately disproven by the first random picture an owner posted 😂

It was a question on a watch forum-didn't know I couldn't ask questions-interesting

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-06:23
Disproven. Actually your picture totally verifies what I am saying. Multiple Hex B are off on that 26400. Great watch but hexes are off. Two things can be true at once.

Yes, it’s fine, you can ask questions and I can respond……

 By: oyster case : February 9th, 2023-06:40
and the picture speaks for itself, any tiny variations could easily be camera angle, light reflection and lens distortion, as I replied earlier. What’s true is that this watch is art, something one can see when they stop looking so hard and open their eye...

They are beautiful watches-nevertheless the hex bolts are off art or no art

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-07:00
It's funny you say 'they stop looking so hard and open their eyes.' It's when the eyes are open that you can see the misalignments

Good question

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-06:32
I think they want the impression that they use real screws instead of being hex bolts.

But if they're gonna put 'em there ya'd think they'd center them...

 By: Gregineugene : February 9th, 2023-06:38
...I mean if they're all about precision and detail...

Exactly

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-06:40
I don't understand why myself. Funny thing is once seen it cannot be unseen. Even the slot sizes are not consistent.

Really?

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-06:45
No worries. asking watch questions on a watch forum does not eat away at me. Isn't that what a watch forum is for? Seems logical to me. However I have a feeling that a lot of AP owners will now look at the hex bolts more closely now.

Yes, you’re a good man to do the AP owners such a service…

 By: oyster case : February 9th, 2023-06:48
I for one feel quite indebted 😂

O dear

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-06:51
Glad I could help.

Yes, a tremendous help! …

 By: oyster case : February 9th, 2023-06:56
Here I was with my APs all this time and I never understood their essence until now 🙏

I'm glad you had an epiphany in regard to AP's watch essence

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-07:05
Still don't know why the bolts are off.

They are not screws? Is the fastener

 By: Darron : February 12th, 2023-16:21
Of the bezel requiring threads and turning to tighten? Are you saying there is a actually a hex hole in the bolt/screw that the cover with a slit afterwards? Sorry for the dense question… I was always amazed with how the even out a hex shaped ecrew head i...

I can't grasp the issue here?

 By: burnsey66 : February 9th, 2023-08:25
Are you referring to the hex slot? They follow a clockwise pattern. I quite like that. But no likey, no buyey, simples.

Yes the hex slots

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-08:45
When the slot bisects the hex you can see that they are not all in the middle and the two halves of the hex are unequal not to mention some of the slots are thinner/thicker than others. Has nothing to do with like or dislike but misalignment on the bolts....

Oh, ok. Hope you get over it.

 By: burnsey66 : February 9th, 2023-08:53

I'm fine

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-08:56
But it seems some AP owners can't.

Why worry about others then?

 By: burnsey66 : February 9th, 2023-09:09
All a fuss over nothing.

Not worried

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-09:11
Just asked a watch related question on a watch related forum. No fuss just wondering why it's done or overlooked on every AP watch

It's such a shame that a simple question can't be asked...

 By: BigFatPauli : February 9th, 2023-12:41
Without the asker being attacked. If someone loves a brand, or watch, that's fine. But to go after someone when they ask a genuine question says so much about the aggressor, and feeds a stereo type. It's too bad. Some of AP'S other watches are okay.

My dear Pauli…

 By: oyster case : February 9th, 2023-16:08
I assume I’m somehow the culprit. I made an answer about photo effects and replied to a different member who jumped on the issue and bashed APs reliability. The OP then decided to answer a reply not directed at him where he came at me. The OP then deleted...

Objectively

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-21:49
I erased a post because I erroneously thought it was to me, Mea culpa my fault or bad form as you say but don't across as I was escalating as I was politely replying to you-it's a legit question and that's it. The fact Pauli is replying to you in that way...

Haha, you’ve replied again to a post that wasn’t for you 😂

 By: oyster case : February 9th, 2023-21:56
My good man, I will have to eschew 😂 any further discussion on the matter. But please come post your watch and reading material on my thread today, no hard feelings and let it go, let it go 🎶

No hard feelings

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-22:22
The question still remains though. It would be great if Michael C could get an answer.

You seem to have accused yourself here as the 'culprit'.

 By: BigFatPauli : February 9th, 2023-22:16
Perhaps you intrinsically know you were aggressive when a member had a genuine, ernest question.

Oh Pauli 😂 you know who you were referring too, don’t be so coy…we all know you yourself are not demure when it comes to expressions of opinion 😂

 By: oyster case : February 10th, 2023-02:51
It’s quite clear who posed the “hex” question and with whom he became engaged. Did you not read, a post was made and then deleted, so my response can’t be seen in context. The OP and I have resolved the matter cordially. Now I really do eschew 🙂 more comm...

As long as you acknowledge that you were really aggressive towards the other member for asking a question...

 By: BigFatPauli : February 10th, 2023-14:10
I am happy to acknowledge that I called you on that behaviour

I'll try to get an answer on how they are fabricated

 By: MichaelC : February 9th, 2023-13:48
I have no problem with the post, and nobody is a bigger AP fan than I. I do think your post title is misleading. As an actual owner of multiple APs, many of mine are perfectly spaced, some might be slightly off as best as I can see in my personal photos. ...

And this is why good moderators are…

 By: myles721 : February 9th, 2023-15:12
moderate! 😉👍🏻

I try to remain impartial. It is not my job to defend AP.

 By: MichaelC : February 9th, 2023-16:48
I have extremely discerning eyes and can't stand any misaligned hands or dial markings, etc. The poster here raises a valid question and I will try to have a response from AP. But in full honesty, a minor variation on the centering of the slot does not bo...

Hi Michael

 By: sschew : February 9th, 2023-22:01
I think I should clarify. I don't mean to suggest that every single bolt is off on every single watch. I'm trying to say that every AP or the vast majority of them has at least one bolt off if not more-whether the hex line is not centered, crooked or even...

I never read it as AP bashing, and it is a valid question. HOWEVER -

 By: MichaelC : February 10th, 2023-14:12
The first time I tried on a silver dial rubberclad in 2001, I was blown away by the AP precision of assembly. Everything was as perfect as could be. Here I am over 20 years later, a dedicated enthusiast. When everything else is so precise, how come the sl...
