When availability was not an issue, just the emptiness of your wallet!! I was also fortunate to try out this special piece. I feel the early 2010s was a bit of a golden era for AP in recent times, there were many many great pieces.
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 39MM Openworked has been in my collection for 6 years. So many things changed (especially at Audemars Piguet..back then they did want to sell watches 😁). I didn't wear tihis was recently but I decided to take out of the vault...
I am sure back then they wanted to sell it and move ! was not super popular but made in limited numbers. New skeleton started at an higher price/size so I was glad to get one of the last 39mm

almost all was available on the spot. I even asked in the forum if I should get the skeleton, to some was too expensive but now is a different world...glad I got it!
Of course you had been extremely disappointed when it has occurred, but that's the evidence you wear your watches and don't keep them into a safe (though any RO can no longer be worn easily and safely)
It actually happened early one when I bought the watch..with a wall or a door! but it became part of the watch! In fairness the recent price explosions 💥made me leave it in the safe ..for too long! Zürich is pretty safe ..or at least the places I visit so...
