I faced a similar dilemma!
However, I was trying to chose between WG Zeitwerk and Langematik perpetual; surprisingly I ended up getting a Platin Dato up and down which was spur of a moment decision ( take it or leave it kind of a thing). In the end, I couldn't be happier with my acquisition and the watch, even on my small wrist sits very well (see my crude iPhone pic a couple of posts earlier).
I am very intrigued by Zeitwerk and would like to acquire it hopefully sometime in future, if possible. Like yourself, date function is very important to me and I am glad this opportunity presented itself for me to acquire the iconic Dato

)I personally find the new Dato up / down to be a more balanced watch both from a dial perspective and case dimensions, as compared to the original version; this is obviously just my subjective opinion and experience, after having owned the previous version in Rose, which I sold a while ago to fund a different piece!

First Lange - Datograph or Zeitwerk?
Okay guys time to graduate to Lange. Have/had AP's, Patek's, blah, blah, blah...and want to start into the dark (bright) side of ALS. I'm torn (and I know easy answer is both--and agree I will ultimately) between Zeitwerk 140.029 (WG) or Dato Up/Down 405....

Really jealous that you can afford any one of this watches, just a joke. great that you can. I would go for the zeitwerk for the mechanism, that it. Also is amazing that the minutes goe by exactly when 60 seconds hand goes throught the spot.

I would go Datograph.
I love both pieces, but I think that would be my first choice. If we were talking about the Zeitwerk Luminous, then I would change my mind in favor of it. :) Whatever you choose, you can't go wrong, both are exceptional timepieces. Good luck. Vte

Can't argue with that--I too would jump on the Phantom! BUT, back to reality of pieces available....:-)

I love the Datograph, but I think the Zeitwerk is way more amazing. I love the digital like display and the movement is equally amazing to look at.
