What a fantastic write up. Thanks so much for this!

Great forum/site! I never liked the Resonance in Black Label because it had that "owl eyes" look, but I imagine this new version would look fantastic with a black dial. Not sure which one I would go for, the silver dial or the black dial.

Someone posted separately a listing from Sotheby’s auctioning a “dual time “ Resonance from 2002. A complete misunderstanding of the watch in its original conception. Now however...
That was truly my pleasure to do :-)

It always help going deep on the good pieces and I felt this one deserves the attention Thank you for your kind words!
Beautiful!
By: Sgfortino : April 28th, 2020-07:33
And what a technical achievement. Congrats to FPJ. Although too big for my wrist, I appreciate the amount of technology in this watch from afar and I am sure there are many collectors anxiously awaiting seeing this watch on their wrist!
I should have also added....

Thank you very much Christian for such a detailed and well thought out introduction to this new piece. Truly valuable and insightful and not something we get elsewhere!
42hrs total.
By: Jay (Eire) : April 28th, 2020-10:47
I expect that the 28hr is in reality longer, and this was just the “safe” number to quote. But for a manual wind getting full effect (constant force) for a full day should be sufficient.

Thats a good question, ik :-)

I like it more than the red splash on the Optimum which is a mix between the two. I am a bit of a purist. I think I would have preferred the original without adding color. The rest is more like tones except the blue hands. The french have a passion for "a...
11mm case height is impressive as hell...

THIS is what all watchmakers should be doing, creating art mixed with engineering in very small spaces. Anybody can build a fat watch. Still not a fan of the 24-hour dial...other than that this is very nice.
Thank you su much A :-)
By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-11:10
G´For your kind words! It was a lot of fun to write it but the downside was that the more I studied it the more my desire grew. I want to see it so badly!!! Havnt felt like about a new piece in a while! take care my friend

Thank you for all the hard work. This is really an impressive timepiece.
By: nafetS : April 28th, 2020-08:49
Overall I like the new dial better (not decided on the 24 hr subdial yet), as well as the movement aesthetics. I'm just not sure about the increase of height to 11mm. As with so many pieces, I'll have to see it in the flesh, but this has a serious potenti...
My pleasure and thank you :-)
By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-11:38
yes, this is grail potential. I think im also beginning to like this new dial better. The movement. I have no doubt it is better. About the 11 mm dont worry. It is like the Centigraphe and by no means thick. However, as you say we need to see it, wear it ...
Yes isnt it, Mike :-) Im really glad you like it
By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-11:43
and I agree - one needs to watch the video as it helps to see the moving parts. I got a copy of the video but not sure I can upload it? Thanks for chiming in - I really appreciate it best Christian
We can't host it here
By: cazalea : April 28th, 2020-13:30
If they chose NOT to put it on YouTube then we have no legal right to do so. I think our best bet is to recommend the link for now, then ask Journe whether Vimeo or YouTube or what host they are using if there's a direct link. Cheers Mike
Ok thank you so much, Mike
By: ChristianDK : April 29th, 2020-13:38
but eBay??!!! not sure how that would work out. LOL ;-) I hope all is well with you Cheers Christian
LOL - I could have done that as well..

Great post! Can't wait to see the new Resonance!
By: patrick_y : April 28th, 2020-10:02
I always thought the Resonance was a cool watch, but that crown at 12 o'clock was too difficult to wind. I'm glad to see this new Resonance and am looking forward to trying it out in person.
Happy to have spent the time to read this post!

I recently read something on another watch website and I was thinking "I want my four minutes back" as I learned nothing about the subject. Your piece gave a nice introduction to the new timepiece, explained the concept of resonance, and included some his...

With the Resonance, I believe the watch has evolved and been perfected over time and I feel FPJ have finally got it right with this latest model. Hope to finally meet you next April in Geneva!
Very good idea.

Initial impression is the watch looks good, and it’s differentiated enough from the prior models to stand out on its own. I don’t get the inclusion of the 24hr dial. But as Mike noted above at least this time the balance of the dials seems to less affecte...
Dear Jay thank you so much for saying that :-)

It was a lot of fun to write but the more I got in to it the more I feel I NEED one. No bs! I am really falling for this watch. I completely agree on all your comments! I was a little surprised to see a 24h/12h dial - and perhaps just a tad disappointed. ...
Thank you so much, for saying that Salman :-)

Is the version of the watch used on the marketing photos released today 40 or 42mm?
Yes ,agree.
By: ChristianDK : April 30th, 2020-06:16
and in fact some of the older models are being redesigned from 38/40 to 40/42 cases. Those all have the narrow bezel in the 40 mm updates. I real improvement, if you ask me.
Yes, it is really an incredible watch
By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-13:22
I have to admit I have really fallen for it. Still I need to try it. But you know, once In awhile you just have a really good feeling with a watch 😄😉

Fantastic article! I have ordered the platium one, would you go 40mm or 42mm on the size? I can certainly wear either one and question why not make it 41mm and be done wit it? That being said, from a resale or desired perspective I would guess the 40mm wo...
Hey Jim, so happy to see you. I hope you are doing well my friend.
By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-14:44
I’m so happy to know you ordered one. Finally you are getting that pilot dial Resonance👌You definitely should go with 40. Looks much better. And I think you are right, much more attractive if you want let it go at one point. Best Christian
I agree Christian
By: GreatPilot@me.com : April 29th, 2020-09:35
40mm is the way to go but wanted to get your opinion. This is the watch I’ve been waiting for and I’m very excited, I’m glad I didn’t get the 2019 version, this is sooo much better!. I appreciate you past help and remembering me being a pilot with the 24 ...

Personally I might like the 42mm a little better but 40mm is a great size for me also and I believe the thiner bezel will work better with the 11mm height...Jim
marvelous and gorgeous masterpiece ❤️

Concerning the movement, I wonder if the use of single barrel supplying energy to two gear trains and escapements affect the independence of two supposed to be totally separated movements. And if the precision of the watch is greatly improved by the reson...
Hi Desmont
By: ChristianDK : April 29th, 2020-06:37
those are good and valid questions. I dont think having one barrel istead of two can affect the independance of the two "seperated movements" as you say. It would not have any influence of the escapements resonating. IMO, it would be a very "academic" and...
Thank you Christian for the always informative sharing.

I think the movement is just amazeballs however! Am I the only one who doesn’t quite like the dial? I prefer the second gen dial the most but this one seems to be a bit “destructive” if I can call it that. Nevertheless I find the new perpetual extremely t...
My pleasure, my friend :-)
By: ChristianDK : April 29th, 2020-11:51
My favorite part is the movement - I am blown away. I do also like the dial. My feeling is the general reception of the dial is positive - but I am not surprised some are not happy with it. When you say "destructive" do you mean the aperture? I would love...

I’ve read your post and find very useful information. I’ve never paid the required attention to F.P. Journe, but thanks to you over the past months this Manufacture is growing on me too. Thumbs up
Hacking?
By: vuillaume : April 28th, 2020-22:29
Hello and thank you for the exhaustive post! you state that: The pulling of the button at 4 o’clock simultaneously resets both seconds. Is this in watch terms considered hacking? hacking is stopping of seconds hand, right? so this hacking or more specific...
Simultaneous zero-reset of both seconds-hands.
By: Lankysudanese : April 28th, 2020-23:28
For the sake of synchronization to an accurate timer (atomic clock etc). Journe doesn’t usually go for hacking; something about damaging the fine movements
Change to seconds hands
By: vuillaume : April 29th, 2020-00:46
but it is still a change to the normal movement of the seconds hands. So I guess the question is how does FP Journe mechanically do this zero function?

You look in the smurfballs post about this watch in this FPJourne forum, you'll see a video. The video shows the mechanism if you watch it all the way through.
Dear Villaume - thank you for a great question
By: ChristianDK : April 29th, 2020-12:15
The resonance does not hack and none of Journes watches hack. Hacking is usually done by a lever that will hit the balance wheel directly and brake/hold it. If you google it you will see its a very brutal operation. Mane brands dont like to make watches h...

Was trying to think of a person who would need more than a 28 hour power band of constant force. Most people who wear this watch will wind it up in the morning, just a habitual part of the dressing ritual. The physicians and first responders who are on ca...
Yes, true.
By: ChristianDK : April 29th, 2020-12:21
after 28 the watch will still be in Resonance until the 42 hours of power reserve has run out. You have a really good point about wearability. I see a lot of watches I admire but are either too thick, too large and a few times too small. Im just getting m...

The more I think about this piece, the more I love it. I think your comment that this new one is on par with the original is right. In some ways, I feel, it even surpasses the original. Especially the movement side. I just can’t get over how good that is....
