Thank you, Mike. That’s an excellent recommendation. Highly relevant. I have some more historical material but it takes some work to brew a proper post on it.

In-Depth: Presentation of the New Chronometre a Resonance (RQ) for WatchProSite

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-06:50
Chronometre a Resonance RQ . released April 28, 2020. Overview (Text extracts from the press kit for Chronometre a Resonance RQ) The new Chronomètre à Résonance has only one single barrel spring to provide power for the two movements. A differential place...

Thank you so much, Luca :-)

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-07:12
yes a lot of food for thougts. We are looking forward to finally see it thank you for chiming in. Hope you are well!

Thank you so much, I really appreciate you saying that :-)

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-10:45
it was fun to write - the only bad thing was realizing how badly I want one ;-)

👍🙏😁 [nt]

 By: holdemchamp1225 : April 28th, 2020-11:06

impressive movement and i love the symmetry in most case...in deed i would have loved to see it on the dial too (i like the old dials)...

 By: mahesh : April 28th, 2020-07:19
i was also impressed by the thinness of the timepiece with all what the movement is entangled with - wow ! not but not the least, ppl always say Mr Journe is difficult to discuss but i think he address the 'crown position' which was always a difficulty me...

Yes, Isnt it. I think it is impressive how he has struk a perfect balance

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-10:51
He has really made true improvements on the watch while staying true true to the original concept. I think we both agree on the symmetry of the 12H dials. best Christian

hopefully he'll do a symmetric dial variant in future or may be a special edition for Purists ;-)

 By: mahesh : April 28th, 2020-12:16
i think he is a genius & always pushes the boundaries towards precision timepiece !

Haha let’s ask :-) I suspect it will come a point.

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-12:29
i agree, he is genius!!! At least incredibly creative and talented

From pictures, Instagram and your description I think this might be the perfect Resonance;

 By: TheMadDruid : April 28th, 2020-07:25
and very close to the perfect watch. I’ll have to hold it and put it on before committing to that last proposition. My one objection to the 2019 dial was the 24 hour scale looking so barren and open compared to the right side subdial. This watch solves th...

Re the dials, that’s my immediate thought too. Versus the 2019 reference these two dials are more balanced to the eye.

 By: Jay (Eire) : April 28th, 2020-10:34
A nice little trick by adding the 60 min scale. In fact, unlike the 2019 where the eye immediately sees the imbalance (difference between 24hr and 12hr), here I did not immediately notice that the subdials were different. Like Christian I still don’t unde...

Exactly.

 By: TheMadDruid : April 28th, 2020-10:51
Someone posted separately a listing from Sotheby’s auctioning a “dual time “ Resonance from 2002. A complete misunderstanding of the watch in its original conception. Now however...

Dear Mike, thank you so much for your words and support always. I really appreciate it :-)

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-11:00
I think this is a genuine improvement. That movement is just incredible. I hope you have watched the video with both the Remontoirs runningWhoa!! Suddenly my Resonance looks so boring in comparison. A lot going on BUT also very clear and pure in a sense! ...

Yes the movement (how did I not mention that?!) is stunning!

 By: TheMadDruid : April 28th, 2020-11:53
And the video is terrific.

Great post and analysis!

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : April 28th, 2020-07:27
We should add this here

Thank you for an incredible and thorough review

 By: NML77 : April 28th, 2020-07:32
It helps me appreciate this amazing watch that much more!

That was truly my pleasure to do :-)

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-11:14
It always help going deep on the good pieces and I felt this one deserves the attention Thank you for your kind words!

FP has said that the optimal distance between the two has increased over the years (from movement to movement).

 By: Jay (Eire) : April 28th, 2020-10:45
Brass was 4/10ths of a mm, now 6 to 7/10ths of a mm (someone needs to check this, but this is what I wrote when FP was talking). He also said that the greater distance between the two helped minimize what he called the “cushion air effect” which was occur...

Thx, interesting! [nt]

 By: dedestexhes : April 28th, 2020-11:19

Very interesting info, Jay

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-12:48
Was that the talk in NYC recently?

Beautiful!

 By: Sgfortino : April 28th, 2020-07:33
And what a technical achievement. Congrats to FPJ. Although too big for my wrist, I appreciate the amount of technology in this watch from afar and I am sure there are many collectors anxiously awaiting seeing this watch on their wrist!

I should have also added....

 By: Sgfortino : April 28th, 2020-12:27
Thank you very much Christian for such a detailed and well thought out introduction to this new piece. Truly valuable and insightful and not something we get elsewhere!

28 hr effective power reserve with constant force is the only issue (likely 38hr total pr).

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : April 28th, 2020-07:38
28hr is easily over 24hr, so no real problem.

42hrs total.

 By: Jay (Eire) : April 28th, 2020-10:47
I expect that the 28hr is in reality longer, and this was just the “safe” number to quote. But for a manual wind getting full effect (constant force) for a full day should be sufficient.

Someone needs to get it to me so I can do an autonomy test.

 By: TheMadDruid : April 28th, 2020-10:55
I’ll give it back. 🙄

I am here to serve. [nt]

 By: TheMadDruid : April 28th, 2020-11:54

😁 [nt]

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-12:43

What do you think about the new style of power reserve (like the Astronomic, as noted here) vs. the old?

 By: LK : April 28th, 2020-07:53
A minor point, but I prefer the character of the old and how it fits with the other writing on the dial. Thanks for the write-up.

Thats a good question, ik :-)

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-11:07
I like it more than the red splash on the Optimum which is a mix between the two. I am a bit of a purist. I think I would have preferred the original without adding color. The rest is more like tones except the blue hands. The french have a passion for "a...

11mm case height is impressive as hell...

 By: mdg : April 28th, 2020-08:15
THIS is what all watchmakers should be doing, creating art mixed with engineering in very small spaces. Anybody can build a fat watch. Still not a fan of the 24-hour dial...other than that this is very nice.

Thank you su much A :-)

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-11:10
G´For your kind words! It was a lot of fun to write it but the downside was that the more I studied it the more my desire grew. I want to see it so badly!!! Havnt felt like about a new piece in a while! take care my friend

I’m still crying over that. It would have been something unforgettable!

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-12:36
Yes we hope it will be soon 😃

Indeed [nt]

 By: cmmnsens : April 28th, 2020-13:29

that was truly my pleasure Dirk. I really had fun with it even if the deadline suddenly got short

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-11:21
Yes its "one of those" to experience as it is something unique and great. Thank you for your great words, dear friend

Ah, My god, Fab! Apologiesmy dear friend - too many replies too fast...

I cant wait to have lunch with you one day

One of the most attractive time pieces ever produced ❣️ In every aspect ‼️

 By: MCG (Markus) : April 28th, 2020-08:35
Wonderful essay, thanks very much! 👍🏻😃

Yes those are my feelings as well. In my book we are at the top in terms of contemporary watchmaking!

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-11:24
This will reach far beyond just this period in horological history. I really appreciate your words Markus BTW is that Mont Blanc in your picture?

Matterhorn 👍🏻😅 [nt]

Impressive machine. I could stare at the movement endlessly!

My pleasure, Michael

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-11:34
The video is amazing with the Remontoirs spinning Hope you are well, buddy! best thoughts your way!

Thank you for all the hard work. This is really an impressive timepiece.

 By: nafetS : April 28th, 2020-08:49
Overall I like the new dial better (not decided on the 24 hr subdial yet), as well as the movement aesthetics. I'm just not sure about the increase of height to 11mm. As with so many pieces, I'll have to see it in the flesh, but this has a serious potenti...

My pleasure and thank you :-)

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-11:38
yes, this is grail potential. I think im also beginning to like this new dial better. The movement. I have no doubt it is better. About the 11 mm dont worry. It is like the Centigraphe and by no means thick. However, as you say we need to see it, wear it ...

Me too. Until now, I've ranked the chronometre optimum higher on my wishlist than the resonance, but this could change it.

 By: nafetS : April 28th, 2020-12:14
I really like thin and ultrathin watches. Thickness always has a big impact on my desire for a watch. That's why I'm a bit worried. 11mm could still be ok, though. In general everything above 11mm is only acceptable for sporty watches with me. I'll probab...

It is often those two competing as favorites among the collectors!

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-12:39
It will be interesting to see where this will sit in the field. Quite high I suspect, as it is free of the quirks and the double remontoirs are quite impressive. Let’s see how ot goes😊👍

It's worth 100k just for the sight of all those gear wheels turning

 By: cazalea : April 28th, 2020-08:58
This is a beautiful watch and one that in the video made my jaw hit the table. I suggest everyone who's interested go watch that on their website. It's at the very bottom of this page www.fpjourne.com Cazalea

Yes isnt it, Mike :-) Im really glad you like it

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-11:43
and I agree - one needs to watch the video as it helps to see the moving parts. I got a copy of the video but not sure I can upload it? Thanks for chiming in - I really appreciate it best Christian

We can't host it here

 By: cazalea : April 28th, 2020-13:30
If they chose NOT to put it on YouTube then we have no legal right to do so. I think our best bet is to recommend the link for now, then ask Journe whether Vimeo or YouTube or what host they are using if there's a direct link. Cheers Mike

Ok thank you so much, Mike

 By: ChristianDK : April 29th, 2020-13:38
but eBay??!!! not sure how that would work out. LOL ;-) I hope all is well with you Cheers Christian

Sorry, that would be YouTube!

My error ... ...

LOL - I could have done that as well..

BTW, I just had 6 cases delivered 15 minutes ago. You where right that there are a lot of good wine offers at the moment.

Great post! Can't wait to see the new Resonance!

 By: patrick_y : April 28th, 2020-10:02
I always thought the Resonance was a cool watch, but that crown at 12 o'clock was too difficult to wind. I'm glad to see this new Resonance and am looking forward to trying it out in person.

Dear Patrick thank you for saying that :-)

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-11:44
Im glad you liked it. This will be really interesting to see once we get the chance

Happy to have spent the time to read this post!

With the Resonance, I believe the watch has evolved and been perfected over time and I feel FPJ have finally got it right with this latest model. Hope to finally meet you next April in Geneva!

Very good idea.

Thank you Christian for your thoughts and the full details on the watch.

Initial impression is the watch looks good, and it’s differentiated enough from the prior models to stand out on its own. I don’t get the inclusion of the 24hr dial. But as Mike noted above at least this time the balance of the dials seems to less affecte...

Dear Jay thank you so much for saying that :-)

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-12:06
It was a lot of fun to write but the more I got in to it the more I feel I NEED one. No bs! I am really falling for this watch. I completely agree on all your comments! I was a little surprised to see a 24h/12h dial - and perhaps just a tad disappointed. ...

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with such a comprehensive review

 By: emcquillan : April 28th, 2020-11:25
I really appreciate your work. From press photos and the description and your review alone this Resonance has made my want/dream list. I was quite take with all the previous versions, but this new one is quite a stunning achievement. Kindest regards,

Dearest Ed - Thank you for your kind words. I am really happy to hear that you feel that way :-)

 By: ChristianDK : April 28th, 2020-12:09
It was a lot of fun to dive in to this watch and it only got better and better. I really feel that is a testament to the quality of what we have before us here. Its on my list as well, I can tell you With warm regards Christian

Is the version of the watch used on the marketing photos released today 40 or 42mm?

Yes ,agree.

 By: ChristianDK : April 30th, 2020-06:16
and in fact some of the older models are being redesigned from 38/40 to 40/42 cases. Those all have the narrow bezel in the 40 mm updates. I real improvement, if you ask me.

Very impressive watch and article my friend

42mm might be better for visibility if you wanted to use it as a dual time watch if you were flying somewhere but 40mm seems more classic for this type of watch...

Watches are dreams. They make you dream. They make you wish. And even if you own the one you dreamed of and wished for, yet you still wish and dream. This watch typifies that. This watch also typifies the true artist that Journe is. In this age of corpora...

Hi Desmont

 By: ChristianDK : April 29th, 2020-06:37
those are good and valid questions. I dont think having one barrel istead of two can affect the independance of the two "seperated movements" as you say. It would not have any influence of the escapements resonating. IMO, it would be a very "academic" and...

My favorite part is the movement - I am blown away. I do also like the dial. My feeling is the general reception of the dial is positive - but I am not surprised some are not happy with it. When you say "destructive" do you mean the aperture? I would love...

Yes the aperture. But I think it’s just me because

I’m not a fan of tourbillon with the exception of the vertical tourbillon whose dial and movement colours are the most harmonious I’ve ever seen on a Toubie!

Bravo ChristianDK, you’ve done a terrific work here

Hacking?

Simultaneous zero-reset of both seconds-hands.

For the sake of synchronization to an accurate timer (atomic clock etc). Journe doesn’t usually go for hacking; something about damaging the fine movements

Change to seconds hands

 By: vuillaume : April 29th, 2020-00:46
but it is still a change to the normal movement of the seconds hands. So I guess the question is how does FP Journe mechanically do this zero function?

If

Dear Villaume - thank you for a great question

Is also awesome. I adore it when FPJ is innovating and disrupting again

I think he almost always - or in most of his watches always try’s to add something new

Sometimes something Big, sometimes a small thing. It is part of his philosophy to be innovative and creative. I really love this about the brand as a whole

Very impressed.

Was trying to think of a person who would need more than a 28 hour power band of constant force. Most people who wear this watch will wind it up in the morning, just a habitual part of the dressing ritual. The physicians and first responders who are on ca...

The more I think about this piece, the more I love it. I think your comment that this new one is on par with the original is right. In some ways, I feel, it even surpasses the original. Especially the movement side. I just can’t get over how good that is....

It was my pleasure, zmxu 😊

Great forum/site! I never liked the Resonance in Black Label because it had that "owl eyes" look, but I imagine this new version would look fantastic with a black dial. Not sure which one I would go for, the silver dial or the black dial.

Warm welcome here, Danzo

Great to have you here. Thank you for your kind words. The new Resonance is an incredible watch. The first wrist shots makes it look even more convincing. I’m biased towards the pt case and the grey dial. I think you are right about the black would work w...
