Vertical clutch

The new AP Cal 4400 features vertical clutch switching. Vertical clutch movements, as a very general rule, don't benefit as much from removal of the rotor as horizontal clutch movements. In terms of thinness too, Bulgari has this covered with the record-setting BVL 318 movement.
It really does seem like the bigger brands stick to their own visions of what a luxury chronograph movement should be, as opposed to competing with each other. The robust automatic vertical clutch movement seems to be the goldilocks approach when the brand wants to use one chronograph movement across a wide range of watch collections.

This could mark the start of a new collection A 40mm automatic chronograph in steel and pink gold. With in house movement. A limited edition of 500 pieces On the wrist, it manages to look retro and modern at the same time, a beauty. Seems to be a part of ...

It was audacious to release this as a two tone case

But the historical link makes sense. I like also the small logo. It is a shame though that they did not release a manual wound movement, it would have been more in line with the spirit of the watch. Sometimes I wonder how the product managers fail to see ...

...I love the design and color scheme...a thinner manual movement would have knocked it out of the park...

And they could probably charge more!

Ticks most boxes and great retro. No date and the movement justifies the exhibition window. Love the olives.

Yes - remove the automatic winding, make it thinner, elegant!

Such a lazy and disappointing effort for a company that produced some of the most beautiful early 20th century chronographs. I guess padding up the margins trumps all. And then you have the typical arrogance of modern AP - "we didn't want a replica of a h...

Have you tried it? [nt]

....the proportions of the watch are very nice despite of its thickness. i actually like it, even the automatic movement is fine with me. it is just too expensive IMHO.
