This consolidation is endemic in the publishing industry as well

I was involved in half-dozen deals of this sort, at a lower level. The good ones who fall by the wayside pick themselves up and find a way to do by themselves what management wouldn't fund before.

I think in publishing and perhaps to some extent in watchmaking the barriers to entry of a new brand are fairly low, so it's hard to say that this consolidation at the top hurts customer choice -- after all who needs more than this many Swiss brands (list from Millenary watches) not all are still in business, but ...

It all depends on Mr Rupert's decision

Both companies are highly valued at the moment: this will be an expensive acquisition but most likely number 1 on Mr Arnault's strategic roadmap

Can’t wait

I am sure it’ll be great for watch-lovers. All that internal competition to spend the most on advertising! The savings achieved by standardising on just one basic movement across all brands! And the fun squeezing Swatch Group till we can buy it and at las...

Could it be one of the reasons why PP is rumored (??) to have reduced the nb of Tifany's allowed boutiques in the US ? They would be directly selling to some of their competitors somehow.

Consolidation Means Less Competition

And that ultimately is bad for us consumers. Quality is reduced, pricing is less competitive, and homogenization or the commoditization of product usually occurs. The safe bet is to look for vintage, neo-vintage, and independents for the good stuff.

Not sure what this means, but .....

I usually find that consumers (in terms of service) and employees (in terms of jobs) wind up on the short end of the stick with every acquisition after acquisition after acquisition. Question to the experts who follow the consequences of acquisitions: How...

just like Hermès. IMO, today's LVMH Is all about marketing and advertising and none about product quality. Please don't ruin the good maisons like VCA and Cartier.

Woohoo … Tiffany stamps and dial colors on Langes, Cartiers and VCs

You know I’m joking right?

Tiffany went from uptown to posh town after LVMH came in…

Branded goods used to have discount openly, but with the consolidation and scarcity tactic that everyone learned from Hermes, it only meant more moolah for consumers to part away with.
