BMW Film

About 20 years ago, BMW created several short films with actor Clive Owen and a number of famous film directors; including Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon), John Frankenheimer (Ronin), Guy Ritchie (Snatch), and a few more directors.

They created a series of short films that starred famous actors and amazing automobiles from BMW's lineup.

After an absence of many years, with a single short film reappearing in 2016, BMW has made another short film, again with Clive Owen and Dakota Fanning.  Now, 7 years later, BMW has a new film again...

Presenting, The Calm.  A short film by BMW.  Starring two famous actresses, and the all new BMW 7 series.

The cultural impact of The Hire was substantial, it changed how other car companies advertised their vehicles.  Nissan and Mercedes followed suit with a single short film.  Luc Besson, the famous French movie director behind sci-fi films like The 5th Element, even admitted that his full length movie "The Transporter" was partially inspired by The Hire.  Its cultural impact doesn't end there, in the short films, there were secret messages, some sleuthing individuals figured out the hidden message and even met at special events where special prizes were awarded - including a BMW Z car which was won by an avid sleuthing car fan in Washington State.

A still from BMW Film's original The Star film, directed by Guy Ritchie, it shows Clive Owen as Madonna's cheeky chauffeur.

And Aston Martin doesn't need to make films... They've got MGM and the James Bond franchise for that!

Obviously....

this new one is done for a different generation with a different demographic in mind - I actually think it will work well for them. I am eagerly anticipating seeing the new DB12 in a few days ........

Me neither....

Another good bit of news for Aston is that Chinese company Geeley doubled its stake to become the third largest shareholder after majority owner Lawrence Stroll (via Yew Tree Investment), and Saudi Arabia's state investment fund.... Via : www.autoblog...

Yup, as an Aston Martin stockholder...

As an Aston Martin stockholder, who's very unhappy with the company's performance, this is a small respite. For a stock that's already down 70% since I bought into it. Darn, I really picked a losing horse!

Agreed. No charm. No wit.

As they say... Sequels rarely measure up.

Yeah... That was a little weird!

Since when does a driver wear such an ostentatious gold watch - that would've told the passenger a hint that this is probably not a typical chauffeur.

Yes..

I recall the Nissan Z film. Very well done…good job showcasing the many virtues of the Z.

I don't even really remember it! It was so long ago!

I especially like the fight sequence demonstrating all the leg room available at the back which I can relate well when my kids attempted something similar in my Lexus LS when they were younger 😂

Don't you drive a 7 series now?

Someone here had a Lexus LS and now drives a 7 series. I like the new 7 series, overall, but I don't find the front to be a very handsome looking machine. It's also very much taller than ever before. The previous 7 series was a better looking car in my ey...

Yes Patrick, good memory!

An Alpina B7 now. The LS was before the Aplina…Me too still trying to warm up to the design of the new 7. I like the feel, the tech.. Aesthetic wise, both front and rear lights are small for the massive size of the car…Dark colors such as black hide this ...

were BMW’s ad agency in USA that created the original idea of showcasing the cars in short film format. They wrote the original storylines and recruited the directors and then the actors. It was a brave and expensive move by the client as no one knew how ...
