This is my very first Rolex. My wife bought this for me when I finished medical school in 1980. I left the sales receipt there so you can see that it sold for a total of $680.
Although by today’s standards that seems a pittance, back then it was a tremendous amount of money especially for a guy who had just finished medical school with absolutely zero dollars in his bank account. In fact I was so far in the hole I had no business even dreaming of one of these let alone actually owning one.
My wife actually surprised me with this watch in August just before I started my internship. When I first saw it my heart stopped. All I used to dream about was a Rolex watch. While in medical school Time magazine would take out a full-page ad of their models every week and I would drool just thinking about them and hoping someday to own one.
As you can see it has a plexi crystal, and some tropical changes on the stick markers. It still keeps excellent time. The bracelet has more stretch than a prostitutes “€£¥<>|| “ but I would not trade it for the world. This watch went through hell and high water with me; it went through sleepless nights in my residency trying to figure out how to keep somebody alive for just two more hours until my shift was over and dream about the next time I’d be able to sleep in my own bed. Needless to say, my wife gave up an awful lot during that time.
Since that time life has been more than good to me, and through the good Lord perhaps I’ll be around a little longer.
So once again my dear friend, thank you for the opportunity to express my feelings and to show off this sentimental watch with many stories behind it.
My warmest personal regards to all my fellow enthusiasts,
Tony
