Quartz watches are “not right” for purists, at least that’s what’s been ingrained in my mind for the longest time, and it’s frowned on by many others who have been collecting for a long time.
I admit that I never bothered with quartz, even with my love for all things Grand Seiko, the Spring Drive never made it into my collection although the technology and accuracy has impressed me for a long time.
Fast forward to 2020 - a super eventful year by any measure, and one that has turned to be absolutely unpredictable, forcing everyone to change norms, social interaction and even economics.
I’ve broken my own “rules”, I suppose, G-Shock’s not withstanding, by picking up my first quartz watch. What can I say - I love it, everything about it oozes class and quality, even how the seconds hit the markers perfectly. Best part is now comfortable and light it wears on the wrist, sometimes making me forget that it is even there.
I was talking to fellow enthusiasts yesterday and I might have mentioned that with my long drawn horological fatigue, this could well be my “exit watch”! Time will tell, of course, but I have a strong feeling about this one.
