Have the timepiece authenticated by a Rolex authorized service center. My suggestion. đź‘Ť

Maybe some parts are not original. So best to have it authenticated. Even if you spend.

Geross.

Need advice on a 6542 being offered to me

By: 5512sub : August 6th, 2021-15:46
Hello! I am being offered a (potential) 6542 and I am getting mixed opinions from some pretty serious collectors. Can I get any input on to the originality of this watch? The Rolex Forum says its a fake, but some respected collectors & dealers said it was...

The scenario is all I would need to have no interest.

I read the thread from the other forum. Why would you be interested in this particular piece? Is the seller going to give you an insane bargain price? If so, why? There is zero reason to entertain this particular piece but perhaps you can use the experien...

yes

yes, i can name my price if i want. they asked me to tell them what its worth. i have a responsibility to get them accurate information

If there is any doubt there is no doubt.

If the price is right and you don’t mind having a watch which is not correct then go for it. It wouldn’t do for me and I have never kept a watch with any doubts in over 35 years of collecting but if you can live with something that is not 100% or even 70%...

Stay Away From This Watch!

You are talking about a lot of money. If you have any doubt about what you are buying, run away! It will never be worth the aggravation and anxiety.

But the answer is the same as you got on the other forums, including TRF. Don’t do it. There are several red flags, with the bezel insert, dial, etc, and given that you are joining these forums and posting this-people will be suspect. I mean no ill will, ...

Someone on the other thread specifically suggested I post it here. I will write up everything I can, post it and then not worry. I have been presented with very strong evidence that this watch has been documented since at least the 1980's had the bezel, h...

I know it sounds crazy. I feel crazy. I just got banned from RolexForums because instead of just accepting the first opinion that was posted there, I kept asking questions and posting new pictures and information I received as I received it. They told me ...

But the paint on the seconds hand looks very, very out of place. But that aside, I will echo the sentiments of the other commenters. If you have any doubts at all, that's enough to walk away on a purchase of this magnitude.

You are not the first to point out the weirdness of the hands. They are definitely highly suspect to me. The whole watch is suspect, that is why I have been asking around. I wont be buying this, but I might be asking more questions about 6542's!

hmm....

Vintage Rolex is a huge minefield. I was shocked at how one of the most reputable vintage Rolex dealers in my area did to sell a "completed" watch. It left a huge distaste in my mouth when I found out the local RSC was in cahoot. OP, by the way, Philip St...

Yeah, things are crazy and get worse every day. Thank you for your input. Over at the Rolex Forum, he literally authored THE THREAD about identifying vintage Rolex originality and it seemed like they respected RolexPassionReport..... Who the heck can I tr...

Words like these are not very useful when talking about 50-year-old watches, particularly ones that cost a fortune and are frequently faked. These questions are typically asked by newcomers to forums. They are annoying. They waste everyone’s time. They le...

You are making the assumption that I am nefarious. That I am wanting something for nothing. I am fully willing and able to pay fair market value for this watch. The problem is, I have no idea what fair market value is. I came to the forum because I did no...

What do you mean with a completed watch? A put together one with the best case from A, best dial from B, best hands from C, best bracelet from D, ...?

To OP: I have been following your quest for information over at TRF, VRF and now here.

You seem obsessed with this watch and/or the pursuit of this particular opportunity. My sincere advice: take a step back, close your laptop, go for a walk and get a good night’s sleep. You will wake up in the morning knowing that you saved yourself a lot ...

I came trying to learn. I apologize that my method of collecting information is to ask a lot of questions and engage in discussion. When I have time, I dive deep. I started to become obsessed with trying to appease the egos on the forum. I spoke so very c...

I read, re-read, and read yet again your posting on TRF.

You were rude, you spiraled into an expletive ridden rant, because you know full well, as you claim to be a so-called “newbie” an annoying term in and of itself, yet your nickname is 5512sub. Please. As a “newbie” you have the insight, or perhaps it is a ...

I kinda wish he would have actually bought the watch if 100k is nothing to him. Just do it, for the amusement.

OK, I didn't know the term 'newbie' was bad. I have been interested in Rolex for a long time. Ive never used the forums. I have read, researched and learned what I can about the watches I am interested. I clarified the term several time. I am not new to w...

I stand by everything I said minus the profanity. Many of the users were cool. When they started showing up in threads on other forums telling me that posting requests to other forums makes me suspect and when I was told I was ignoring the red flags, or w...

And was not involved in the TRF thread. I read it objectively. If you didn’t like the reaction you could’ve dropped off the thread or the forum. Instead you chose to behave the way you did. Whatever, good luck with your 100k watch.
