Zenith´s black alchron
Hi all,
I´ve been looking to buy my first Zenith and, among the options I´ve considered is the Stratos Black Alchron. I´m looking at 90´s vintage pieces too but that is another story.
Have to say I haven´t seen the Black Alchron in the metal yet. There is one AD where I live and their inventory consists of dress watches only. However this metallic alloy sounds very promising to me. My problem is the 45mm hulk of the stratos in my meager wrist. The case is supposed to be hard, light and well, blackish. I´d love to see a black alchron case on the 40mm el primero pilot line for example. Or the new vintage 1969 too.
On the other hand I recently saw pictures of a lightweight el primero with a carbon fiber case - and everything else btw. No word of the Zenith proprietary alloy.
Am I missing something? Are black alchron cases already history?
Thank you all for the interesting and intelligent inputs you´ve provided on this forum. For newbies like me it´s worth the moon.
Ramon

Yes, the Doublematic is a fantastic watch with a large number of useful complications in a tidy package at an attractive price point. Would you have gone for the DLC version over the stainless steel if they had released it? I have never been a fan of the ...

Alchron

Hi Ramon, I totally agree with you here. Certainly on paper Alchron properties look promising. It scratches black and can be polished, and dampens magnetic fields, and is a light alloy, corrosion resistant. What more can one ask if wanting a black watch? ...

Hi Dean, Thanks for the warm welcome here. It's very much appreciated. It's interesting to hear your impression on the black alchron weight. I thought it would feel much lighter than steel, considering it uses aluminium. I can remember the time when I hel...

not that light

Yes, I understand. Perhaps the name alchron is misleading. Anyway it's a cool material even though it's not much lighter than stainless steel. From pictures I like it better than carbon fiber on a case. Thanks, Ramon
