When I first heard news that Zenith was creating a 40mm pilot I was disappointed because I thought they made a mistake of making a 48mm then jumping all the way down to a 40.
When I read your write up I must admit I began to think differently. I have not tried one on, but I am imagine the way the lugs sit on this watch it may feel a little larger than my other 40mms. I have a few. I originally questioned the idea of having a pilot watch so small, but then I remember seeing all of the older Zenith Pilot watches made in the 20s and 30 and 40s in this style and they were probably about this size. I think this is more true to the original styles which I love.
I cant wear an IWC big pilot, I think it is a little big and the crown is quite painful. I do wear 44s and 45s but I also love 40s. I think this can be a perfect sporty pilot style watch that wont look ridiculous when I wear a suit.

those lugs make it look smaller, not bigger
I have the 57.5 and these lugs make the watch look smaller so this 40 mm will probably look smaller than for example a rolex sub. Maybe you want to try the 48mm too because I tried that one and it wears like a 45 mm radiomir

i will have to wait until they come out to see how it fits. I think I will like the GMT. something about the chrono annual calender doesn't look right to me, same for the tourbillon.

Thanks for posting your thoughts and pictures. I just wish they made this one slightly bigger at 42 or 44mm, or the 48mm to 46mm! Anyhow, both are certainly one i need to try on my wrist!

Again, I would have loved to see the result with a 42mm case but the 40mm diameter enhances some aesthetical features! Fx
I love this Pilot line, classy & classic, but they are WAY too big...
Now, they've made it in a reasonably sized 40mm case and the result is sijmply superb. Just perfect! I am getting sooooo tired of big bulky watches. Even when they are superior watches, i can't help finding them ridiculously ostentatious and -yes- cheap. ...
