WINNERS in the STATIC DISPLAY CATEGORY ARE ...

Apr 26, 2020,04:42 AM

Hi Mike,

Here you go :

Lots of big pretty and masculine whales this week, and a topic that is very interesting as big watches are certainly not the norm here, I've realised.

Going by the many nice static photos here, giving honor to some which caught my eye. It was a very difficult thing to do in picking winners though, but I'll try.

Consolation
jporos' Lacher and jmlwatches' Seiko.

3rd place
brauner's Panerai : The reflection on the crystal, and the picture brings out the sandwich dial and crystal's depth very nicely

2nd place
subexplorer's IWC : Love the setup with the pilot Snoopy admiring it against the backdrop of another pilot watch

Winner
thegrailwatch's Linde Werdelin : The picture captures the watch against what looks to be an endless expanse of adventure, the Pacific Ocean (one room in the home of the WHALE)

Thank you Richard! and congratulations Gentlemen for your hard word and inspirational photography...

This comes as quite a surprise. My personal favorite was Abel's Big Pilot shot and so many other great options to choose from. Maybe one day we can take the thegrailkid out on the boat to go see some whales together?!

it's hard to explain the lunacy of a watch collector, isn't it? Even to one's self (not to mention the wife). Everytime I think of a "big watch" I remember this one, and "the next day" wondering what drugs I must have been on when I bought this... The doo...

I shot the "pod" with a (very old) iPhone, hand held. The short focal length on the iPhone (28-30mm equivalent on a 35mm SLR) helps with depth of field, but also yields the distortions you can see on the Time Pyramid. No light box, but shot with indirect ...
