WristScan

Yikes, has there ever been a thread devoted only to quartz watches on PuristsPro?

Well, there is always a first...

And eventhough this week's wristscan may be perceived poorly by some Purists, I sincerely hope an interesting variety of quartz timepieces can be appreciated.

I admit I have quite a few "battery powered" watches.  The interest started because I knew I could afford them more readily than their mechanical counterparts.  For example, I doubt I will ever have the funds for a mechanical minute repeater...so I substituted for this!

And what are the chances that I'm going to find an observatory competition chronometer like a Be-Ba, or a Seiko VFA?  So
this Citizen filled the gap of wanting a "super accurate" watch.

Soon I realized that what I liked most about quartz watches was the design element.  People thought I was crazy to spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on a "normal" three hand watch but they always commented on the various "cool" and affordable quartz watches that I wore.  In fact, living in Maine where there are not a lot of watch enthusiasts, quartz watches allowed me to share my passion for timepieces...many friends who never wore watches now do...not owning just one but quite a few.

My current favorite is a Nixon Murf...reminded me of an Urwerk

But a Urwerk will never have a blue LED light.  (sorry about the fingerprints).  And I can service this Nixon without a six month wait and a thousand dollar bill.

And it has a secret message too which can only be seen through the crystal lens.

Here's hoping to see your favorite quartz watch.

Enjoy, Mike
