The story behind this watch is worth telling . . .

. . . as I'm sure the same has happened to at least a few of us. The Seiko was Dad's companion for forty years - business, pleasure, gardening, you name it. Naturally, like any mechanical device, it eventually broke down and Dad decided it wasn't worth servicing - after all, he'd purchased the watch for around $40 while on a business trip to Kuwait in '65, and he'd gotten his money's worth out of it; he was ready to throw it away, but decided to give it to me knowing my interest in watches. I went all out and had my watchmaker overhaul the movement, replace the crystal, and ordered a custom Camille Fournet strap and generic deployant to match. The day came when the watch was serviced and appointed with the new strap, but when I showed it to Dad, his response was, "How much did you spend on that piece of junk?" After learning I'd spent ten times his original outlay, his shook his head in amazement and regretted not following his instincts to chuck it in the garbage . . . cordially, Art
