Let's share Static and Watch of the Week . . .
Jan 13, 2019,09:42 AM
. . . in one thread, Giles.
Gotta admire Arie for his carpet-bombing wish-list; there's at least one . . .
. . . where our lists overlap. (In my dreams, of course - an RS is totally out of the question in reality!)
A shout-out to Seeks . . .
. . . and Stefan . . .
. . . for posting the iconic exemplar from my favorite manufacturer. (Good move to switch to an earlier iteration, Stefan . . . also a fan of less-appreciated '80s and '90s Speedies.)
Abel shared a UAE Air-King . . .
. . . and, coincidentally, my first mechanical watch post-college was a similar model issued to the Bahrain Petroleum Company with a decal on the dial. Sentimentally, my favorite watch of the session.
Even though I keep telling myself I'm not a Rolex guy, there's a draw to vintage Subs . . .
. . . I can't deny. The Captain's example induced instant lust.
Saso's Zenith . . .
. . . was a runner-up on my sports-watch acquisition list many years ago. I ended up getting the New Vintage 1969 instead, but have always admired the technical ingenuity and functional legibility of this EP variant. If I had an actual use for a chrono, this tenth-of-a-second timer would be at the top of the list.
My coming of age was the early '70s, so Blomman's GP Olympico . . .
. . . beckoned alluringly.
There were three, though, that stood out for Watch of the Week, which is supposed to reflect the watch that intrigues a judge most.
First, the grey Seiko Worldtimer presented by NT931 . . .
. . . which is such an elegant example of the genre. Pierre's white linen dials deserve mention as well, but N's is so rarely seen that it qualifies for Show honors this week.
Fred's Benrus Skychief . . .
. . . represents a rare example of a highly desirable vintage from an otherwise obscure and largely forgotten brand. If it weren't for the Skychief or their military issues, Benrus would be a forgotten chapter in the encyclopedia of manufacturers. A tip of my cap to Fred for latching onto this road-less-traveled, Placing second this week.
Win goes to jporos . . .
. . . for this utterly delightful LIP. I still haven't seen a Tati film yet, J, but my sense is you're honoring his oeuvre with this latest addition to your collection.
Have a pleasant Sunday, all!
