The object of our fraternity is knowledge, after all. Ask Christian, then Mr. Ferla, but they will just go back to the guy in the Heritage Dept who has already spoken. FWIW, Antiquorum is not without mistakes; recall the infamous George V aviators watch from the Quarter Millennium sale. VC is also not without mistakes; they first attributed the 222 to Genta. I've even had errors on Certificates of Authenticity! Research is like religion; operating on blind faith may be comforting but not necessarily enlightening.
Dedicated VC collectors are often confounded by the idiosyncrasies of the brand, however, with 260+ years of accumulated documents I accept that they will discover new materials which change past "facts". I'm exceedingly pleased to have collaborated with them on a few of these discoveries.
Your advice to be cautious with any watch that shared a case design with other brands is sound. The cornes des vache case was also used by LeCoultre, even the Maltese-cross lugs appeared on other brands. Thankfully, VC can confirm serial numbers on relatively short notice.
