Personally I prefer 1815 chrono

Dec 11, 2020,23:38 PM

Not to say the others are great ones too but I think ALS redefined chronograph with Dato & this is the dressier sibling with almost the same movement architecture.

the case of CDV is absolutely sensual & I like it a lot (who doesn't ?!) but i feel personally (imho) the hands are a bit uninspired in VC.

PP is a gorgeous one too with breguet numerals & quite dressier but then, if it has to be PP chrono it has to be a 5070 isn't it ?

it is hard to find any fault with 1815 chrono in my view - the dial, movement, & the case - all collectively spot on.

mahesh.,

Cornes De Vache? Please indulge a VC newbie

Greetings. I'm seeking a hand wound rose gold dress watch with opaline dial that can see me through my elder years. I anticipate wearing it to church mostly, occasionally to the office, and in other safe/controlled environments. Either with a suit, sportc...

never doubt VC CDV

If I may share my personal opinion strictly within your list: if you can only have one and most liquid investment=5170r the sexiest movement yet masculine, handsome, affluent=1815 Chrono the most gorgeous case, poetic dial, aristoratic and class=CDV The m...

Thank you Gelato - appreciate your input

Wonderful points all. I called the nearest VC AD (Atlanta, GA in my case) and that would be a 4 hour drive if I decided to visit. But on the phone the salesman stated that he'd been working there a year and they hadn't received - nor had he's seen or hand...

Whatever you do, get the R (either dial) for the leaf hands alone...

...one more I'd consider but they are tough to find; a Roger Dubuis chrono...choices, choices : )

Thank you mdg

You are referring to the 5170 I presume? Yes, rose gold the only metal I would acquire. I checked the Roger Dubuis chrono offerings but wasn't taken with them. But thank you for the suggestion! Best, Robert

Yes...the white-dialed 5170g is not my favorite because of the stick hands.

I am a huge fan of yellow gold, but the 'J' version also has stick hands. But I tried one on once and it is a perfect fit on my 7.25" wrist. Amazingly thin and light imho. If there was a 5170j with leaf hands (black or white dial) I would own it asap : ) ...

The Cornes de Vache is definitely on par with the Patek's and Lange's chronos

VC's Harmony mono-pusher would be worth a look as well.

Thank you j, I did consider the Harmony

However it didn't appeal to me visually in photos. Best, Robert

Yes, the ALS chrono and Dato are both inspired pieces! I've tried them both on - and the Dato sits too high on my wrist and there isn't comfortable. The 1815 fits better and the only area where the 1815 chrono falls down for me is the dial. The 5070 is to...

Presumably you have, but if not, check out the CdV hands up close.

Although simple, they have a certain three dimensionality to them that is very sensual and keeping with the whole piece. Unlike, for example, the Patek 5170G/J baton hands that are rather flat, the CvD hands are rounded around the edges and very nice IMO....

Agree on 5070

The 1815 is more wearable than the Dato.

Thank you Nico, VC certainly seems to have a success with the CdV.

I live in a rural environment and must travel inconveniently far to visit any prestigious brand ADs. Suppose that is a nice problem to have so I should be thankful! I have my work cut out for me. Best, Robert

All are great timepieces

All of the timepieces that you have mentioned are amazing. I have the ALS 1815 Chrono (2nd generation caliber L951.5) and love the piece. Never get tired of the 1815 Chrono, flip the watch over to see the movement and you will witness one of the most beau...

From the ones listed, I find the VC the most timeless one

Both for the movement, as well as the aesthetics. But...there is one rose gold chrono I would prio over all of these. The 5247BR. It is just amazing imo. All the very best, Alex

It is the real deal. I have it in steel.

The PP and ALS are nice as well. The CDV has a charm all its own.

I dont own a CDV

but to me it looks beautiful. Could you please give me a feeling for how often and when you use the tachymeter? Thanks Pelle

I use the chronograph often when I wear the watch.

 By: Horo_Traveler : December 13th, 2020-08:22
Mostly to enjoy the tactile feel but also sometimes to time eggs and the BBQ. The tachymeter scale itself is just a historic relic that adds interest to the dial from a design perspective. But alas, I don’t wear any of my mechanical watches that often any...

Thank you. Much appreciated

We need some images for this thread. I can only help you out with the Cornes de Vache, and even then, I apologize for the poor quality of these photos. Rose gold, steel, platinum all in a row. Rose gold. Platinum above and below. On a personal note, I was...

Respo - thank you so much for the photos and personal input

Yes, the Lange 1815 Chronograph is nice. Most of all, the Lange has an absolutely bewitching behind. A bewitching behind is so visually powerful that it can compensate for a mediocre case and dial. When playing in the $50k and up range... nothing mediocre...

RFLMAO

I have NONE of them. :-( But I have been fortunate to have seen and handled them all. I would like to add one to my collection one day... All the best, respo

Same here. One day.
