Wonderful points all. I called the nearest VC AD (Atlanta, GA in my case) and that would be a 4 hour drive if I decided to visit. But on the phone the salesman stated that he'd been working there a year and they hadn't received - nor had he's seen or hand...

You are referring to the 5170 I presume? Yes, rose gold the only metal I would acquire. I checked the Roger Dubuis chrono offerings but wasn't taken with them. But thank you for the suggestion! Best, Robert

I am a huge fan of yellow gold, but the 'J' version also has stick hands. But I tried one on once and it is a perfect fit on my 7.25" wrist. Amazingly thin and light imho. If there was a 5170j with leaf hands (black or white dial) I would own it asap : ) ... 

VC's Harmony mono-pusher would be worth a look as well.

Yes, the ALS chrono and Dato are both inspired pieces! I've tried them both on - and the Dato sits too high on my wrist and there isn't comfortable. The 1815 fits better and the only area where the 1815 chrono falls down for me is the dial. The 5070 is to... 

Although simple, they have a certain three dimensionality to them that is very sensual and keeping with the whole piece. Unlike, for example, the Patek 5170G/J baton hands that are rather flat, the CvD hands are rounded around the edges and very nice IMO.... 

The 1815 is more wearable than the Dato.

I live in a rural environment and must travel inconveniently far to visit any prestigious brand ADs. Suppose that is a nice problem to have so I should be thankful! I have my work cut out for me. Best, Robert

All of the timepieces that you have mentioned are amazing. I have the ALS 1815 Chrono (2nd generation caliber L951.5) and love the piece. Never get tired of the 1815 Chrono, flip the watch over to see the movement and you will witness one of the most beau... 

Both for the movement, as well as the aesthetics. But...there is one rose gold chrono I would prio over all of these. The 5247BR. It is just amazing imo. All the very best, Alex

Mostly to enjoy the tactile feel but also sometimes to time eggs and the BBQ. The tachymeter scale itself is just a historic relic that adds interest to the dial from a design perspective. But alas, I don’t wear any of my mechanical watches that often any...

Yes, the Lange 1815 Chronograph is nice. Most of all, the Lange has an absolutely bewitching behind. A bewitching behind is so visually powerful that it can compensate for a mediocre case and dial. When playing in the $50k and up range... nothing mediocre...
