Interesting dilemma
Like many I suppose, the 1921 was one of my dream watches until I tried one! While it works on my wrist and while the rose gold case works well with my skin tone, in practice I found the second dial too distracting ir not quite an eyesore. I still remember the day of my visit to the AD, I was wearing my ultrathin Drive de Cartier in steel and purely from a design point of view I felt the Cartier had the upper hand. Obviously the VC movement & finishing are leagues apart but sometimes simple is best, so it'd be the Traditionnelle for me!

It would be my choice too, but because of size I would be forced to choose the 82172.
The 40 mm 1921 is too large for my wrist and the 36.5 mm feels a bit odd (I've tried it on twice on different occasions): none of the two is a good fit for me, unfortunately... ...

While I love the 1921 in the abstract, and while I appreciate it's historic significance in the VC collection, it's the Patrimony Traditionnelle that I'd actually get wear out of.

My personal experience is a little different (even the 36.5 mm didn't feel great on my wrist), but I definitely think, like you, that sometimes simple is best. Best, Emmanuel

1921 if only...
if only Vacheron made it tilted the other way so that it worked on a right wrist. It's a gorgeous watch, but it's definitively made for left wrists. Wouldn't 'lefty' and 'righty' versions have been a lovely idea?

It looks really great on your wrist, which seems to be larger than my 16 cm wrist.

I really do like the 1921, but there is one thing that stops me… the small seconds display. The fact that the 60 does not line up with the 12 o’clock axis just messes with my brain. Ideally there should be no numbers in the sub seconds. Now, the 82172 has...

While I like the 1921 quite a bit (the smaller one for me, please), I love the Traditionelle Manual a lot. Clean and reduced but at the same time surprisingly modern. Have a great weekend! Martin ...
