. . . gotten around! Playing with champs and winning - that's gotta be the icing on the cake.
Played a game of 8-ball with Mike Massey once, but he sized me up as no competition and took mercy, giving a few chances to make a shot before slamming the door shut. Managed to make one shot, but he wasn't nervous.

The other notable player I played (with and) against was Jack Hines.
Met him four years ago at a neighborhood HB pool game; he picked me to be his partner in a doubles match. Took four lessons from him over the course of a few months. During the last session, after I'd made a series of bank shots in a competitive game, he said, looking at the table where I'd just made a bank shot in the side, "You're the best high banker I've ever seen." Had to ask another experienced player what 'high banker' meant, which apparently refers to 'high-probability'.
That was the highest compliment I've ever been paid.
