Very familiar with many of those
Here in Southern California, especially, L.A., there has been a significant campaign to reduce water usage.
I have always been attracted to cactus and succulents, so our yard in the San Fernando valley was filled with them. Had a few Century Plants (that large spikey one). We now live on the coast, so we take advantage of what grows well locally, though I did bring plants and clippings with us.No better way to clear your head than working in the garden.
BTW, did you know that Aztecs used to throw captured warriors onto Century Plants?

Went to a water conservation garden displaying drought tolerant plants. Tried to get some ideas for our garden at home that will save us on water bill. I was amazed at how colorful some drought tolerant plants were. Always thought of cactus and succulants...
