Among the great composers, i think Hans Zimmer and James Horner ( Legends of the Falls, Apollo 13, Braveheart) are one the best for creating scores for epic movies.
The others like Howard Shore (Lord of the Ring trilogy) and Gabriel Yared (city of angels, Talented mr Ripley), and my only favorite female composer, Rachel Portman (Cider House rules, Legend of Bagger Vance).
