Perhaps not the bugs you might think
But it does confuse the tourists!
Moreton Bay bugs (Thenus orientalis) are also called slipper or shovel nosed lobsters, mudbugs or just bugs around here. They live on the sea bed around the northern coastline of Australia and are caught with trawling nets like prawns. Moreton Bay is near Brisbane off the Queensland coast. There is a similar crustacean called a Balmain bug (Ibacus peroni) and both are prepared like lobster, although they are smaller. Grilled on a BBQ with lots of butter is a great way to eat them.
