like anything else, knife collectors are varied, as is the the subject of their obsession

There are those that are German steel fans; Japanese; French...
there are those that collect brands - Boker, Puma, Benchmade, SOG, MOD, Spyderco, Buck, Ka-Bar, Cold Steel, myriad others;
as well as those that focus on custom knives, the blade equivalents of Dufour, Voutilainen, PSM (Greyson Tighe recently did a special Blancpain limited edition);
those that collect by category - "tactical" is the hottest market category right now (a $1Billion business!) but also art; utility.
There is even the "material heads" (oh, the blade is AUS-8; no, 440 is better; ATS-34 was the wonder steel of about a decade ago, but is basically 154CM; and of course, those dreamy like Damascus steels...)
I personally tend to sexy design and exotic (or "bleeding edge") materials, when I kept up in this category; even here, the echos of discussions from our watch forums reverberate - just how USEFUL is that cool, wicked looking design?
