Damascus

In the interests of accuracy, patterned blades (made via pattern welding) should not be called Damascus.
This refers to a lost art of blademaking that is yet to be replicated, mainly due to the inavailability of the correct composition of steel from India, a (wootz) ingot.
If you are interested in futher reading, take the time to visit this link (a little heavy on the metallurgy if you never studied it) www.tms.org
I have added this link in the thread lower down, but as an investigation and examination of (arguably) the pinnacle of blade making, it is worth repeating.
