Handmade shoes in Modena
May 12, 2021,08:23 AM
Last weekend I've been finally able to visit the store with a knowledgeable friend of mine, which will be described as The Immense.
Alessandro Cappi is the shoemaker and I have to say that I've lived one of the best Pretty Woman experience of my whole life.
I was looking for a loafer, Alessandro was glad to show me part of his production.
I usually stand for hours at work (pharmacist) and I need comfy shoes in which I can put my custom insole.
Alessandro also told me that he can build a pair of dress shoes around my insoles; I'd like to wear something more elegant than Nike!
My first purchase has been definitely smooth, but what has fascinated me the most is what The Immense and the CEO (another friend of mine) have ordered and bought.
Apparently a pair of shoes is something easy to manufacture, but a new world has been opened to my eyes.
Goodyear welt construction (obviously by hand), Blake stitching and other several ways of constructions which must be chosen according to the customer's choice, with the approval of your trusted shoemaker.

As many of us are supporting independent watchmakers, though this another sector, I truly support Alessandro and his work for one, big reason, to protect the real MADE IN ITALY.
Too many times customers are cheated (I'd better say swindled) by hallmarks, like Swiss Made, which are used to raise prices only.
After a morning of shopping, coulnd't I refuse a lunch invitation with some salame (handmade) as appetizer, rosette as main course, torta Barozzi as dessert.
If you ever plan to come to Modena, just drop me a line, I can't guarantee you'll get the access to the famous and super private The Immense Terrace, but I'll do my best
