TimeOut

as they are german shorthaired...

as they are german shorthaired pointers i
thought Fitz was appropriate. then the year after we got him we got his
brother from the next litter and i couldnt resist calling him Startz. i thought
it was a bit of a laugh.

when my wife used to show them we used their
Kennel club names which i chose. i was in my Chinese porcelain period and called
them 'Pride of Kangxi' and 'Star of Kangxi'.

they both managed to qualify for Crufts. Fitz
twice and Startz only once as he's younger and we gave it all up before he could
go again. too much bitchy backstabbing in the british dog showing world. its
probably the same the world over and not worth the effort.

the funniest thing about them happened soon
after we moved to this very isolated and small welsh village. its the sort of
place where you dont get accepted until you've lived here 50 years and have
married your uncles sisters cousin. 2 months after moving in my wife entered the
dogs in the village shows dog show. it is run under kennel club rules with a
qualified judge, but we expected a local to win so she only did it for the
practice. Fitz ended up as 'best in show' and Startz was 3rd. we got a few
glares after that :)

i would advise anyone who has a dog never to
show them.

just enjoy them.

best

Graham
