Another Perspective
It’s been an exciting World Cup and it’s great to see the soccer superpowers challenged to reflect how any team can be a challenger.
What saddens me immensely about this World Cup has been the absolutely atrocious officiating. Referees who missed the basics, obviously didn’t know the rules, who chose to ignore offenses that changed the outcome of games, who didn’t use VAR when they should have done, awarded cards when they shouldn’t have and failed to give red cards when they were merited.
I sincerely hope that FIFA address officiating training and significantly improve the quality of those individuals before we arrive at the next World Cup. To repeat the standard of this WC’s officiating would be to tar the game and diminish it as the pinnacle of the sport.
