A White Van Man Avoids the Wilderness by Staying Home, Part 6
Unfortunately I have been grounded today by the Missus, due to a throat infection I've picked up. Maybe it was all the shouting (shooting) at Prius drivers? Or the desert dust storms?
(Thanks Dr. MTF for diagnosing my illness as a particularly virulent strain known as WV Man-Flu)
So today's episode will have to do with some local delivery information. I compared the WMV to my Volvo V70 XC. It's a bit longer than the Volvo, about the same width, and much higher. The load carrying capacity is higher, while towing ability is much lower.
In my experience no one worries about how many cubic feet or liters of something will fit in, they want to know more useful things - like will my bicycle fit without dismantling it? Can I get a kayak on top? Can I drive it into my garage without ruining the truck or the garage door? Useful stuff like that.
RAM REAL LIFE ROAD TESTING
In response to reader comments, we came back from the wilderness, dressed for success like the worker I used to be, and took the RAM into some serious city environments.

It handled the inner city social scene with aplomb. No one questioned our right to stop, back into private delivery driveways, take photos or generally make a nuisance of ourselves.
I can tell you most folks aren't that tolerant when you back a Contach onto a park lawn looking for a scenic photo!
We were waved into the mini-storage lot without the customary grilling about who we were and which garage we were going to.
It's undoubtedly a truck, but not a "real" truck like this water tanker.
The fish man liked our delivery vehicle - especially since we bought a few kilos of "offshore products" from him.
As did the bread guys - although they scoffed at my taking two tries to back into a parallel parking place - hey, I'm not used to only seeing with mirrors.
By the time I got to the Sausage Works I had the backing thing down pat.
I can report that the RAM has plenty of headroom,
which is necessary for non-verbal communication with other drivers, pedestrians, panhandlers and the like.
Moving to an assessment of the van's capacity (not liters or cubic feet) we can report that a bicycle fits inside just fine. In fact, two bicycles will fit with room left for one sleeper and a bunch of personal gear.
The side doors are handy for loading power tools, working man's clothing, and lots of crates of stuff.
In fact, there's room for about 40 of these standard size plastic storage crates. I could cram 2/3 of my garage storage into this and just park it on the street. Cheaper than a new garage, that's for sure.
Can you believe this vehicle sells for about $21,000 US? It's not loaded, but in my opinion it's fantastic value for the money. It's a big metal box that drives well, gets great mileage, and is very comfortable over all sorts of terrain (except deep sand).
Well, I've got to go gargle with some Jack Daniels to soothe my throat, then get ready to start work at my new job...
so I can get a break on the price of a new garage door, since the truck doesn't fit under my old-fashioned wood door.

What kind of engine it gets for the US market (not sure if it is in the table but cannot scroll in it on my phone)? They do have tons of advantages, as you pointed out, even if prestige is not one of them Thanks for continuing and I hope you get better so...
