Just a walk in the park today

This morning we went east to La Mesa, a suburb of San Diego. It absorbed a record 4+ inches of rain last Monday -- the greatest rainfall in San Diego area in 175 years of record-keeping. Somehow poor La Mesa got the most. But the weekend and today are sunny and bright. So it should be green, right?

This is the town where I went to high school many long years ago, so I know the general layout which hasn't changed much in the last 30-40 years.  We went to walk in McArthur Park, which used to surround a golf course (now absorbed into the park). If it was new development, you wouldn't find a beavertail cactus of this size!

Or hokey little bird houses like this, only fit for a hummingbird or something of similar size. Baby bats, perhaps?

And I doubt you would find a chicken coop next door to any other California urban park.

Apparently these chairs, perched on the side of the summit, don't get used very often... except by spiders.

Mt Helix cross about 3-4 miles as the crow flies. The famous Revolving House is at 7 o'clock in my picture.

You can see all its details in the link above, but if you don't have time, it looks like this and was on the market last summer. I did a post on this a couple years ago and will try to find the link for that.

Back to our walk which was at a slightly-lower elevation. My wife spotted a hummer and miraculously so did the Sony. Look at that blue sky.

We got plenty of chances to see this bird during our walk around. Here's a better photo:

This gate should have been a warning that there were hummingbirds around,

as well as a brilliant Western Blue Bird, which I have never seen before.

The suburb of La Mesa (oranges) is right next to Lemon Grove (guess what they grow)

Old guys were playing softball in the park (see below) and young children were climbing on the play structure nearby while their moms were talking to their phones (I don't take pics of kids).

And by and large, despite the sign, most dogs weren't on their leashes. Bad owners!

Beautiful eucalyptus on the hill.

And some flowering trees on a beautiful winter morning (temperature about 72 degrees F)

Soft focus, sorry.

The watch of the day:

Thanks for walking with us.

Cazalea

PS - we saw a pink flamingo too, across the street from the park...
