I remember following the World Chess Championship in 1972...

where Fischer defeating Boris Spassky of the USSR, in a match held in Reykjavík, Iceland.  As a kid I played a lot of chess with my brothers in the 1960s, but haven't played in years.

I have been known to watch 将棋 (Shōgi) and 囲碁 (Go) matches on TV.  藤井 聡太 (Fujii Sōta) has caused a bit of a stir in recent years... he's a professional Shōgi player ranked 8-dan and currently holds the Kisei and Ōi titles. Sōta is the youngest person to be awarded professional status by the Japan Shōgi Association and one of only five players to become professional while still a junior high school student... he won his first 29 games as a professional to set a new record for most consecutive games won.
