Reading the press release again I see
“It is offered as a limited edition of 1,500 and will be available in December at Seiko’s elite retail partners in selected markets and worldwide in early 2018.”
Yes, I believe “launch” is the key word.
So perhaps first batch to H and other “elite retail partners” (a distasteful term) in December (now) and the next batches through normal channels around the world.
Regarding the “Early 2018”, Seiko said to expect the watch by mid-January, which is fine by me.

How they manage these fired enamel dials at this price point, I don't know. No other brand seems to be able to do it.

I still don’t get enamel dial. What makes them special. I know the manufacturing process is painstaking.
Specially in white, I do not know how to appreciate them “yet”.. I briefly own a Breguet enamel white dial. I sold it within a few weeks. 😅

Could it have been this one that you owned? A few years ago, I looked at it closely and despite being attracted, a friend said "You will get bored and flip it" so I didn't buy it. But the Seiko dials are different. Cheers, Cazalea ...

this price is pretty steep for a timepiece with the 6R15 movement. I have the experience the 6R15 movements are not regulated that great. My Seiko Sumo, Seiko Sarb and Seiko Sdgm were not accurate at all. But, ... i like the esthetics of this timepiece ve...
It is easy to regulate the movement in service or with personal attention from your watchmaker

Despite flying 2500 miles and driving 400 miles through wildfires and smoke in the last 30 hours, I managed to order one

Not a Hodinkee exclusive in the US then?
Interesting that the boutique are taking orders. According to Hodinkee they have exclusivity (150 pieces) for the US.
A careful reading of the H site shows inconsistencies, but reading this
“This watch is a limited edition of 1,500 pieces, with 150 of them available exclusively here in the HODINKEE Shop.” It sounds like 10% to H, leaving “1350 available exclusively through various Seiko Authorized Dealers.”

ordered one via the NYC Seiko boutique... expected delivery by late Jan 2018... was told that boutique places order to Japan once deposit received, so it sounds as if, for now,
pieces will not be delivered to boutiques without being pre-sold. and i hear that Hodinkee ordered pieces have already been shipped/delivered. One wonders why Hodinkee was given priority...
My best guess would be their reach? Hodinkee is enjoying the power of mass media whereas any given Seiko Boutique just doesn't have that kind fo exposure. Just a business move by Seiko.
