A more exhaustive description of the differences in these movements

I have several movements in various states of disrepair, so it was interesting for me to locate this data which another guy has put together:

DIFFERENCES in 6306 6309

The extra jewels in question are in the top plate:

cap jewel for upper escape wheel
hole jewel for upper third wheel
cap jewel for upper third wheel
hole jewel for upper seconds wheel

Cap jewels don't add much in my estimation; they just sit on top of the hole jewel, as a "Cap" to keep things out and oil in. Hole jewels are better than holes in the brass plate as they have less friction and hold oil better. Both cost more to produce and I guess Seiko decided not to spend the extra money on the newer (much larger production numbers) movements.

The hacking feature is one small extra piece that stops the second hand, which also requires a groove in the plate next to it, for clearance. Otherwise the movements are essentially the same.

I hope this helps answer your question.
