I am looking for a good everyday watch to be worn with casual / smart casual wear. I've looked at the AP Royal Oak, the VC Overseas Dual Time, the Glashutte Panolunar XL, yet I keep finding myself drawn to the Rolex DSSD. Has anyone found another watch th...

Omega IMHO does not deliver the 'je ne sais quoi' of Rolex... There is something about a Rolex both mental and actual... that is solely theirs... (or yours if you own one.) Omega, I love the Seamaster chrono with 'pedestrian' 7750 inside... a GREAT rugged...

nothing comes close to the DSSD.You have made a brilliant choice and still came back to it after comparing with others. You have your answer there.Personally, I think the DSSD will be an iconic piece and it actually wears and feels great on the wrist.

That may mean that you appreciate thck and big diving monsters. In this case, you may have an eye on the JLC Navy SEALs Alarm, or a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, or the new Audemars Piguet ROO Diver, or the GP Sea Hawk. Buy the one which will sing loud to you!... 

The four watches he mentions are all great watches, which is why I have 2 out of the S'(!lancpain FF and GP Sea Hawk Pro II). Iw ould ad the other twon but I don't think that you can get the JLC Navy Sel Alarm. My AD said that it was all sold out. I will ... 

The Deepsea would probably be my first choice - it has it all (quality, bad-assness, pedigree), however, it is a bit heavy (215 gr) and thick (~18mm) for some people so it is not an obvious choice. My take is once you start using it, all other watches out...

...a true operator would never use that anyhow. Imagine traveling incognito with a cover - who is going to go around with a special forces logo on a watch when you have to go through border control etc. Then again, I doubt a real operator would use anythi...

from what i've seen, the VC can be had for <$10k (which is pretty close to what the DSSD and JLC go for).

last question on the Rolex. My only hangup on getting the DSSD is I feel I may look like a poser for the brand "rolex" given how diluted it has become in the NYC area. Do any of you feel the same way, or am I just overly sensitive to the name "rolex"?

Sure, a bunch of people own a Rolex but in a grander scheme of things, it a very small part of the population and the Deepsea is far from a common model. I've met two other owners in a year of ownership. One was a guy from New York (!) at a conference in ...

is a bit heavy and thick and you will be easily hitting it to rvery door frame. The new Rolex Submariner with ceramic bezel is an easier and cheaper option. However, I think that out of the "marine inspired" sport watches the best value is offered by Omeg...

are you referencing the VC overseas or the VC overseas dual time? I tend to prefer the look of the latter...

I have another VC Dual Time but don't find it very readable. I will compare it with some other traveller's watches in near future. Best, Kari

I love VC, but no--there is no comparison b/t a Rolex sport-watch and a VC sport-watch--the VC is an adventure in beautiful design, and fine detail... aliving up to VC's legend... but it still has the vaguely delicate 'feel' appropriate to VC as well.... ...

Another Rolex, if you want something smart , GMT master 2 would be great choice, or Sub LV although I haven't seen in flesh. But, IMO, DSSD would be iconic watch as still worlds first deepest diving watch, despite it's size, Other reccomendation can't be ...
