Wonderful piece!
When I started in watches in the early 80’s
my main interest was early Rolexes. From
the 20’s through the 40’s. I was fortunate to
own a few of these but they’ve been sold to
finance other pieces. Bobby Fischer said
you’ve got to give squares to get squares.
In watch world sometimes you have to give
watches to get watches. Your piece is
just beautiful. I imagine you look at it more
each time to enjoy it than to know the time!
The only Rolex I have left is a hooded bubbleback
from the late 40’s.
When is the last time you saw one of these in person?
6090 Bombé c1950s with matching JB USA Rolex band made for bypassing the Tariffs of that era. And of course an original waffle dial. ...

It is a 14Kt Yellow gold 6090
As were probably 50% if not more of these bombé watches. The Steel is a bit less common and 18kt or Pink would be a bit rare. With a matching original beads of rice and black waffle dial, it enters rare territory

yep… back in the mid 90’s I remember going into Abercrombie & Fitch (before they became a tweener brand)
and they had a display case filled with 50’s era Rolex like this they were selling as fashion trinkets for pennies… those were the days!

If you remember just about every Ralph Lauren had about a dozen 1950s Rolexes like bulls eyes and Canadian Rolexes on alligator straps. All were considered way overpriced at nearly $1500 for 33 and 34mm steel Oysters.

I sold many too. Wish I kept most of them
This one I think because it is a nice alternative to a Day-Date, I shall keep.
