Rolex

What's In A Name If...

... Your Last Name Is ...Dufour?

First of all, Rolex is boring... BORING... with a capital B-O-R-I-N-G!   Sure, maybe the guy behind the beautiful Pilot Type 20 can breathe some fresh air into an otherwise stale room, but something tells me the good ol' boys down there at the foundation will have nothing to do with any of it.

Let's be real; If pieces like the Skydweller are the reflection of Rolex's innovation, then Jean-Frederic will be dwelling in the sky.  Please don't get me wrong:  I love Rolex and own several - every collector should have at least two, right?  But as purists, we all seem to be gravitating to the more vintage pieces, like Amanico's chocolate wonder, or Iceman's 5512 from 1961.  The new watches are not innovative.  Okay, the white gold GMT, what with its two-tone pepsi bezel in ceramic is kinda' cool, but innovative?  No way.  And at 38,000 dollars plus, I think I'd rather have something from JLC or an independent.

Thanks Magnus, for the good information.  But I will go ahead and make a not-so-bold prediction:  Stifled by the members of the Wilsdorf board, Mr. Dufour will not last more than two years at the helm of Rolex. There, I said it!
