unexpected call...

in September 2020 when the OP range in 36 and 41 was released in a palette of dial colors I was immediately smitten. The question was which color and what size was most suitable for my tastes. I was wishing for a 38 as it felt like a good middle path but Rolex is clever and know what they are up to.
I had an opportunity to visit my local AD when they had the display versions in store and tried all colors and sizes thoroughly. It was far from easy to conclude and lots of contemplation ensued. But finally I had made a decision that a yellow 36 was the right one to go for. I loved the yellow tone on the dial against the brushed steel case and bracelet. The 36mm felt aesthetically more classical and balanced. I communicated my wish to my AD and had low hopes but was at least happy to have had the opportunity to try them all out and form an opinion.
Fast forward some long weeks and I got the call... and a yellow 36 was waiting for me at the store. I was more than thrilled and now it has been about 18 months since it came to my ownership and over the past 2 summers it has been my go to summer mode piece. It still brings joy and smiles while on the wrist.
It was with some sadness earlier this year when I learned that Rolex had decided to discontinue several of the dial varieties in the OP range after only about 18 months since being introduced. I was sad to the see this as I thought it was one of the more fund and playful offerings in a simple format that was available (if one was lucky that is).
Then very recently I happened to visit this same AD and had a look at the current watch offerings. As always it was an enjoyable store visit with the opportunity to try some interesting and compelling timepieces. The most unexpected part of the visit was when they brought out this turqoise 41. I tried it on (for a second time since the display versions were in the store), and was absolutely smitten. And the rest is history.... now I feel extremely fortunate to have the fortune to own not one but two most playful OPs and one in each size...
