Tudor Black Bay P01 - Live from Baselworld

Mar 24, 2019,11:47 AM

This is probably one of the most controversial watches of Baselworld 2019 but I feel that in the metal the Tudor Black Bay P01 is wonderful

The watch has a lot of character and has a sort of raw beauty that is difficult to capture in photos.

The strap is leather and rubber on the inside, very comfortable and water resistant

It is not extremely thick and works also on smaller wrists like mine

Love the date (!) and the GMT Bezel so really useful and for the price there is a lot to be excited about.  What do you think?

Christian

I wouldn’t wear this watch if it was given to me for free! This model should have stayed as a prototype! Once again my opinion and I’m sure others will like it.

It's growing on me.

I could see owning it in spite of, or perhaps because of, it's quirkiness. It's a shame there's not a bracelet option, though the rubber/leather strap looks very good. This one's on my interest list, which is a first for a Tudor. M4

I like the bracelet..but of course if someone prefers a full steel bracelet this is not to consider..but

for someone with too many watches may be is a good excuse to have something different

I havent found any mention of the lug to lug size yet, or heigth, do you know it by chance ? And what is your wrist size ?

very small wrist :) My understanding is that there is a normal spring bar

after the metal parts of the strap BUT the original strap is really cool I can tell you that overall it wears smaller than the Bucherer 43mm Bronze. Seems also less thick somehow..is wearable (more than the Rolex Deepsea which I own and love a lot..)

I think this is the most interesting watch from Basel this year

It's clearly different and seems well integrated. Complicated, but in a different way.

Not sure I love it Nicolas -- not enough to buy it, to be honest.

But it was at least a bit of a surprise. Basel was not especially interesting, at least to me this year.

I understand you did cover a lot of watches in your wonderful instagram posts but..

somehow I missed Omega, Breguet, Jaquet Droz, Blancpain..Longines.. Still overall the organization was better and not as crowded which is a big +

indeed is different...

and very charming in person.

I think this watch is really cool

And I would wear it !

I’m a bit disappointed with Tudor this year....

...having bought a BB58 and a BB GMT last year ( both superb watches by the way) but this one isn’t for me although it does look quite good on the wrist. Regards Kev.

Just my considered opinion....

I’ve ordered one ☝️

well done..I feel you can't go wrong with this one if you have other watches...

I think is a very cool piece ...summer, winter with a suit..with a t-shirt. Very versatile and the price is very competitive for an COSC movement. I might get one too

Thanks for your reply...

Tudor are in the sweet spot and adding this to my collection makes sense.

This is one of only two new watches @ this year's Baselworld that I'm probably going to buy

 By: reintitan : March 24th, 2019-13:43
I really like the design. Weird, for sure. Looks good though in a non-classical beauty way. The 12-hour bezel makes sense in that at the time (late 60s and early 70s) US military issued watches included the Benrus Type I and Type II Class A dive watches w...

+1 ! [nt]

Does it look like the strap can be replaced for something less avant-garde?

 By: VinnieD : March 24th, 2019-14:05
It could look good on a steel bracelet or a plain rubber diver strap Thanks

I don't like the end pieces. Looks terrible IMO.

I'm really happy they made it

Different is good, even it's not something I would personally buy. How many more Black Bays do we need to see at the moment? The right guy wearing this watch would be awesome to see. The worst thing a watch can be called is ordinary, which it certainly is...

Nicely put! [nt]

 By: amanico : March 24th, 2019-14:27

well said..of course is not for everyone but it doesn't have to be

 By: christianch : March 24th, 2019-17:03
and the history behind it is fascinating.. to say the least !

Controversial = good for me.

Put me in the "I like it" camp!
