Rolex

This will be an eternal debate, I fear.

I saw several from 58 / 59, and most often in the 60 / 62 range, indeed.

To know if they were replacement dials, I doubt it, when it comes to the 6542 for one reason.

We have replacement dials for the 6542 on 2 periods, one in the Sixties ( OCC ) and one in the Seventies ( SCOC ) both T Swiss < 25. And both without exclamation dot.

So these dials were indeed born in the 58 / 59 range, when radium was still the common luminous material used by the brands.

Even if, at this time ( which is a stone in your garden ) Rolex thought about repalcing radium by another material, less radioactive, as we well know. ( See the ad/ letter publiqshed by Rolex in Dec 1959 about the change of the bezels )...

Hmmmm.... Very interesting debate!

Best,

Nicolas
