Left vs. Right? Wristbidextrous...

How do people decide which wrist to wear a watch on?

I have been stressed about the size of my new 216570 compared to my 16570.  At first the 42mm seemed great, but now I'm just not 100% sure.  So I've been combing the internet for conversations about the 216570 and the size.  Well it defiantly leans towards most thinking it's a bit large, and while reading most reference their wrist size generally 6.5-7.5in so I pulled out the tape and put it to my wrists.  My Left wrist is 6.75 and my right is a bit over 7.0 so I tried the 42mm on my right wrist and low and behold it seems to be more pleasing.  Yes, it feels awkward, but I'm sure I could get used to it...

So here I am with a what do I do now?  Change all my watches to right wrist size, or do I become wristbidextrous and wear said watch on whatever wrist i feel it looks better on?  40mm on the left, 42mm+ watches on the right?  Not sure how my mild OCD would be able to handle such a predicament?

Something else I have always wondered.. If watches are designed to be worn on the left wrist why is the crown on the right side where it seems to always rub against the top of the hand in a lot of cases?  I understand that it's there because most people are right handed and it's easier to manipulate and set the watch with the crown on the right side.  I just think it would be better suited on the left and we all could get used to that I'm sure?

It has not happend as you hope in your post. Maybe you are more rational than i am... a watch on my right hand does not get the same love as on my left. Sounds weird but i hear you kind of have a similar feeling. So: i would not do it. You can really wear...

Thanks for the input..

Personal feeling is hard to overcome. I've had my eye on the 5 digit ceramic GMT for sure. Maybe I'll trade up, or down.. not sure which it is!!

I believe this is where is comes from.

The practice has been, If you are right handed you wear it on your left and vis versa so that 1) if you are writing and you need to write the date down, you check your watch on your non-writing hand. 2) this is the important one. When holding a drink and ...

Point 2 is "on point"

Hadn't thought of that one which is a great point!!

Your intuition is correct

The 16570 should fit better on you than the newer larger iteration. Unfortunately wrist comfort won't improve with familiarity. 16570 just fits everyone better, even larger-wristed folk. I ask to wear my wife's 16570 from time to time as its 40mm case fit...

Left handed here. I wear my watch on my left wrist. And sometimes, but very rarely, on my right wrist, too. Size is not really a problem for a 7'' wrist. I can wear 32 mm to 47 mm watches.

Now, as for the Explorer II, I much prefer the former version, the 16570. I find it more harmonious in size and design. But it is just my taste. Best, Nicolas

I thought I was the only one to think that about the old-new Explorer ll. If the new Explorer were 40mm that would be my daily watch.

I own the older 40mm with a white dial but after many years of loyal service I have retired it. I’m right handed and wear my watches on my right hand. Why? I dunno. Have always done it that way. My wrist is 7 3/4” but I hate large watches and a 40mm watch...

Think I'll give it a shot! [nt]

I'm going to try right wrist for a few days and see how it goes!

I have done it before, and I do remember hitting my watch on doorways and such because we are not programmed to protect the right hand from minor collisions over our life as much as the left hand. Just got to be careful until I can make decision!! Thanks ...

You are a military man. You know how you move, when you move. You know what you are holding with your left hand and your right hand. You know your body positions at ease and in contact.

You are aware of your reflexive movements from constant drill and practice. Hopefully considering what else you may be carrying and wearing and all of the above will help guide you on what hand to wear your watch. Only you would know what makes the most o...
