I have the GV. At first, I was exactly the same. The depth of the watch seemed wrong. The lugs were just too prominent. I loved the dial and the nature of the watch but some of its aesthetics we're "awkward". So, I put it on a green NATO and TaDa! It work...

The modern Milgauss is a winner in many aspects....
The size is perfect for everyday wear and it is definitely not too big. It is not as dainty as its predecessor in terms of size but not as big as the newer submariners. 40mm is a darn good size if you ask me. Two words: GET IT!
