And I felt exactly the same and it took me a few years and the birth of the blue dial to convince me.
I think you and I have similar taste and the bezel was wrong to begin with as it to me belonged on a Datejust in white gold and not on such a sporty complication.
However when the blue dial version came out and I put it on my wrist I was sold. To be completely honest for me it was more of a forgiving of the bezel as that blue dial is spectacular.
Again for me this version is the only one my eyes would let me own.
Mot sure if that will help but I hope it does. 🙏🏼

I, too, have a love hate relationship with the fluted bezel.

I believe they are but they still bug me :-)
In general I think Rolex hands are not has visible as they should be due to how they polish them compared to other brands. Except for the more sporty hands like in the submariners and the like, I find most of the "straight" hands from Rolex do not provide...

Whaouah, you had a chance at the WG blue SkyD Roger. That is a bit of a unicorn from Rolex as they only made VERY few. It is actually the one I want and I would happily trade my blue and white dials in SS for the WG blue dial, even if I had to add cash 💸

Yeah. I was even told at the time that it was a unicorn.
But buying just to hold on and sell later isn’t my thing. I sold my blue dial patek 5980 because it just didn’t wear right on me. I made money, but that’s not my general pursuit.
Similar to others, this timepiece creates polar opposites... fun dialogue.
