New to Piaget with Altiplano

 All,

I am a long time watch collector.  For some reason, I avoided Piaget for many years.  I recently became very intrigued by the Altiplano and picked one up.  This is really an amazing watch.  It is so thin, but they managed to create 4 layers of depth in the dial (outer ring, inner dial, seconds and date window).  I really like the design.  The movement is finished beautifully and it is an automatic with  a microrotor.  This seems to be a watch of the highest quality.

But, the Piaget brand doesn't seem to earn the respect it seems to deserve.  The prices on the pre-owned market are more than reasonable and they regularly appear on grey market sites as well.  As someone new to this brand, can someone give me some background as to why this is so?
