What an excellent movie! I am very happy that you enjoyed it. To my tastes, it is a very special and superbly crafted film. I hope to be able to see it on a big screen, projected in a proper movie theater someday.

...maybe that means Kurasawa did a good job. The scenes in the apartment reminded me very much of a stage set...these parts would have been perfect in a play. The actor who played the lead inspector was fantastic. He seemed very 'American' at times. He wo...

I appreciate good cinematography...

and there is a fair amount of crossover with still photography, including lighting. When I lived in LA we use to go to the movies every week, very infrequently now... Casey

Yes, the lighting is beautiful...Have you watched the film recently?

I made a comment to another Japanese speaker (whom you know) that the actors spoke incredibly fast, especially Mifune. Was that just the cinema style at the time (i.e. film noir-like rapid-fire dialog)? I could only understand ten words : )

I have not seen the full movie, just scenes and commentary...
