The Resonance still does not seem to be scientifically proven as F.P.Journe speaks of acoustic resonance as the basis for achieving the sync between the two balances (and visually demonstrated via the seconds sub-dials).
Philippe Dufour’s Duality or the MB&F LM2 is not about resonance but more to cancel out the variation in amplitude of the two balance wheels by having them connected via a differential. So there is mechanical connection between the balances whereas in Journe’s resonance there is nothing except ‘air’ between the balances. The concept in FPJ is somewhat unreal, though many collectors and even watch-reviews have commented favorably .
The inconsistency I see in F..P.Journe is in their statements vs actions.
While clearly stating that the tourbillon is useless, Journe still produces ultra high priced tourbillons including the vertical variations.
In fact they express a very strong belief in the Resonance.
The CEO of FPJ North America can be seen calling out the advantage of Resonance over the Tourbillon. Videolink below;
One thing I must agree is that the Brand has witnessed a major spike in prices helped by youtube influencers (select collectors) and pre-owned online stores like “thewatchbox”.
To that extent I must say that the Brand has been quite successful in establishing a strong collector interest.
When prices are on an upswing, more often than not, issues of movement fragility or service shortcomings may get ignored.
