Why is watch collecting declining?
The watch sale figures for Germany are immense.
Frankly not all are collectible watches that generated that sales figure but it shows that watches are still very popular.
Also, next to a car, is a watch a perfect status item.
Whether for the trained eye or the untrained: a golden Patek, or more obvious a Rolex, will be recognised as "expensive".

And they are quite different. The 5227G is very classic and indeed the hunter back is exceptional...much better than the one on the 5153. Of course Patek charges quite a bit for this simple time watch as a result. Conversely and as noted, you get the awes...

Well said! By someone who has first-hand experience with both. The hinging on the hunter back in the 5227G is unusually good. That's definitely a difficult case to produce and I too agree it's better than the 5153.
