Why is the 5110 such a popular watch here?
The world time reference 5110 seems to be an incredibly popular watch on this forum. I think there is a reason for that. Lets not talk about the movement. The style. The case. Nicolas has done a great job over the years expounding the virtues of his 5110P. These qualities, of course, make the watch the piece that it is. I originally owned a 5110Y but swapped it for the 5110G above.
And this leads me to why I think the watch is so popular. It works...with a pair of jeans....and equally well with black tie. It has that universal look that works almost regardless of the style of the wearer. Now, I think that is especially true for the white metal...P and G....but less so for the yellow and rose which are more formal to my eye. I would be tempted to add a 5110P to my G.
A watch for most occasions.....yes. I can see why it would have such wide appeal.

You got it. An universal charm, which works on both formal and dressy universes.
When it comes to world times, the Patek is the winner. Not in terms of sophistication and functionality, but in terms of charm. And charm is one of the most important cirteria, for us, don't you think? Best, Joe. Nicolas

.....I don't know if its charm or aesthetics...... sometimes, I will look at a watch and its aesthetics are so powerful that I will readily overlook some perhaps fundamental flaws under the hood.
Practical side of me wouldn't add the P...
But trade G (plus funds) for P. White metal appearance stays the same and you get that nice blue/grey center in the P. Same dress up/down potential. Once you have the P you might not think the G is absolutely necessary don't you think? But the G is gorgeo...

I prefer the shape of the hands on the 5110 to the 5130. I also have a small wrist so the 5110 fits me better. Such a functional watch and absolutely beautiful. one of my favorite Patek watches!
