Patek Philippe

The world time reference 5110 seems to be an incredibly popular watch on this forum. I think there is a reason for that. Lets not talk about the movement. The style. The case. Nicolas has done a great job over the years expounding the virtues of his 5110P...  

When it comes to world times, the Patek is the winner. Not in terms of sophistication and functionality, but in terms of charm. And charm is one of the most important cirteria, for us, don't you think? Best, Joe. Nicolas

.....I don't know if its charm or aesthetics...... sometimes, I will look at a watch and its aesthetics are so powerful that I will readily overlook some perhaps fundamental flaws under the hood.

But trade G (plus funds) for P. White metal appearance stays the same and you get that nice blue/grey center in the P. Same dress up/down potential. Once you have the P you might not think the G is absolutely necessary don't you think? But the G is gorgeo...

I prefer the shape of the hands on the 5110 to the 5130. I also have a small wrist so the 5110 fits me better. Such a functional watch and absolutely beautiful. one of my favorite Patek watches!

..I see the 5110 like this....the 5110 is "mellow" and "mild", the guilloche part of the dial lends it an "afternoon" feel, the whiteness of the dial is "forgiving". In RG its glow reminds me of valve Röhrenradios of the 1950ies (while the 5130 with its s... 

and I guess passion & love are involved here. There have been a few quite critical reviews about that watch, even from well-known collectors, in the past. Have they been wrong? No, but in some cases it is not all about the perfect features if there is...
